Thought and Prayer for Friday, October 18, 2019

Friday, October 18, 2019

It is so sad to see the path this world is taking. It is sad but it is not new. Since the beginning of time, the world has gotten out of hand with evil and corruptness and, yes, even fake news. There are still those who twist the truth to benefit their purpose and selfish ways. Their focus is on them and getting what they want when that is not at all what God tells us. We are to focus on Him and what He wants. We are to serve Him and keep a pure heart. And a pure heart begins with right thinking and godly motives.

Psalm 53:1 “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!” (NLT)

1. Write the actions of those with corrupt hearts and minds.
2. List wrong actions you may have taken in the past.
3. Turn to God and seek His forgiveness for any wrongdoing.
4. Pray for those with corrupt hearts and minds that they may turn from sin and turn to God.

Dear Lord, we pray You will reveal to us anything in our hearts and minds that could be defined as corrupt. We may have some hidden desires to do wrong. We may have started down a wrong path with someone whose intentions are not right. We may have spoken words that are not good and pure. Show us today where we can improve in our thoughts, words and actions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

If our hearts are corrupt and unbelieving, our minds and consciences are corrupt as well.

Titus 1:15 “Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.” (NLT)

The words that come out of our mouths start in our mind. To keep our minds pure, we need God’s word.

Matthew 15:10-11 “Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. ‘Listen,’ he said, ‘and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.’” (NLT)

Matthew 5:8 “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.” (NLT)

Philippians 4:8a “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is…pure” (NLT)
