October 19, 2019 PROUD THOUGHTS
Many of us don’t believe we have proud thoughts. However, we may want to rethink that. Proud thoughts are not just thinking about how great we are or better we are than others. Proud thoughts don’t come from just thinking about ourselves. Pride comes from thinking very little of others as well. When we don’t take time for someone, we are saying our time is more important than they are. When we don’t share our blessings with others, we are saying we know better than God who tells us to use what we have to help others. Pride comes in many forms and we need to be more mindful of the words and actions we use to ensure we put God first, others second and ourselves last.
Romans 12:3 “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.” (NLT)
1. Write what or who you think about the most.
2. List the ways you spend most of your time.
3. Remember pride can easily creep in wanting you to think only about you.
4. Know God wants you to put Him first and obey Him by getting rid of any prideful thoughts.
Dear Lord, it is our prayer today that You will help us to be more aware of the things we think. We want to be sure our words and actions show we are not too proud to spend time with or help others. We want our minds to be filled with Your word reminding us to get rid of every proud obstacle that keeps us from having a right relationship with You. Reveal to us any pride in our lives and show us how to fill that area of our lives with Your word and doing Your will. We want to put others first and serve You by serving them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If we have disorder in our lives, we may want to see if pride is any part of it.
James 3:16 “For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.” (NLT)
God wants us to get rid of any pride in our lives so we can better know Him and serve others.
2 Corinthians 10:5a “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.” (NLT)
If we want less conflict in our lives, let’s get rid of any prideful thoughts or actions.
Proverbs 13:10 “Pride leads to conflict; those who take advice are wise.” (NLT)
