October 20, 2019 A WORRIED MIND

The great thing about habits is the more we do them, the more routine they become. That is great news for the good habits in our lives; however, what about the bad habits? We don’t want to repeat them over and over because that would lead to unfortunate consequences. Worry is a bad habit. When we roll negative thoughts over and over in our minds it is called worry and can cause us to lead an anxious life. Even worse, worrying about something that has happened or hasn’t happened doesn’t make it better. In fact, worrying means we are focusing on our problems rather than God. And that is never good. God wants to help us with our anxious thoughts so we don’t worry but we focus on Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you worry about.
2. List the times of day you worry.
3. Know God wants you to stop worrying.
4. Give your worries and cares to God because He cares about you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we tend to think too much on things which causes us to worry. We dwell on the past. We worry about the present. We think too much about the future. Help us to give our worries and concerns to You, Lord. You tell us You love us. You tell us You care for us. You tell us to give our concerns to You. Help us to be obedient to You by not worrying but praying and trusting in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God tells us to pray instead of worrying.

Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (NLT)

God wants us to remember we are to trust in Him in all things.

Matthew 6:25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?” (NLT)

God cares for us and wants to take away our worries so we can better focus on Him and do His will.

FOCUS:
1 Peter 5:7 “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” (NLT)
