I Passed Up Free Mexican Food...On Purpose!

Tuesday, October 29, 2019

Whoa, guys. I'm just as surprised as y'all are at the title. But it's true! I had the opportunity to eat free Mexican food today and I skipped it.

I work in an OBGYN office and we have drug reps that bring catered lunches fairly often. It's actually a big reason why I've gained the weight that I have. Today we had a rep come and she provided a lunch from the local Mexican restaurant down the road. I didn't know she was coming so I had planned to have a veggie wrap for lunch. I had already put it in my tracker and was looking forward to some fresh vegetables. When lunch time came around, one of my coworkers informed me that a rep was here but she wasn't sure what was on the menu. I walked into the break room to find large containers of chips, queso, greasy meats, beans, salsa, and all the trimmings. The smell was glorious.

I stood in the break room and mentally mulled over if I could pull off a small portion. I was incredibly tempted but ultimately I knew I would fail. Mexican food is my favorite and it's a trigger for me. I knew that, despite my best efforts, I would have served myself a bomb of calories, fat, and grease. After a couple minutes of thinking it through, I went down to the hospital cafeteria for my veggie wrap and I'm really proud of myself. Not only did I pass up on Mexican food but I passed up *free Mexican food*.

I know I won't feel this strong every day but today was a good day. I didn't feel like I was left out of anything. My lunch was still tasty and filling. Hopefully, I'll remember this feeling the next time a rep comes. Until then, I'm going to keep patting myself on the back. :)

Good for you! You will find over time that eating clean is what you prefer and that greasy food won't smell good anymore. I volunteer twice a week in a hospice office and they cater lunches for their team meetings every other week. I will share in their veggie salads, but usually they are eating subs, pizza, taco bars, or sometimes Chinese. That stuff doesn't even appeal to me anymore!

Definitely pat yourself on the back - you deserve it! emoticon

Great job! Inspiring for those of us who try to fend off the treats at work. Everyone brings cookies and chocolate..I work with 100 people..there are birthdays all the time and treats galore. Sometimes you just have to walk away.
