Can This Marriage Be Saved?

I believe there are two kinds of people..
#1-Those who care.
#2-Those who do not

Clearly you can see I am the #1-on the right of my #2 husband.
I never could decide which is true: ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ or ‘opposites attract.’ This baffles me.

These are scenes from an actual event this last summer:
I answered the phone to hear my sister-in-law announce:
“We are coming your way and would love to see you!”
“Well of course!” Can’t wait!” Click!

I galloped through the house, as if receiving a storm warning to evacuate at once!
“O-M-G! Just LOOK at this house, would you! It looks like a zoo!”
My husband, an obvious #2- peered over the newspaper.

“How can it look like a zoo when we have two little parakeets? Besides, are they coming to see us or the house?”

“Oh, I get where you’re coming from! You don’t even care! And in case you may have forgotten, my brother was in the military!”
“Well, was he a general? And besides, didn’t you grow up with him, where he saw you without makeup, and your hair in rollers?”

“Yes, to all of the above, but what if they come here and have to use the bathroom?”
“And how would that be a problem?”
“Well you know, some people go to the bathroom and like to snoop around! I even snapped this picture after a guest used our bathroom.

"Oh! Now I get it! Like you did when you were a teenager and you rifled through people’s medicine cabinets to try to profile them!”

“Well, you know it’s true,” I argued. I have heard stories from people who installed hidden cameras which revealed sneaky people peeking behind the shower curtain!”
It was as plain as the nose on my face I was a #1, while my hubby tiptoes through the tulips without a care in the world; satisfied to be a #2. I ask: Can this marriage be saved?

Thank you for for stopping by today--Incidentally, my brother and wife really DID visit, however, I slightly exaggerated about my house looking like a zoo. lol--In truth, it is generally always neat and clean. Just thought a chuckle would be nice to start our week.

Well, speaking as a number 1.5 who is married to a 3 there is no way my house will ever be as neat as I'd like it, but it’s okay, most of the time! emoticon

I don't know.....I am a #1 in my head but the reality of my household is you can never outnumber the messes of pets and the #2's. ~SIGH~ Sadly my marriage was not saved.

I'm so excited my two and a half year-old daughter is coming to stay with us for nine days at Thanksgiving with my son and daughter-in-law. I'm de-cluttering my son's old bedroom downstairs. It feels great donating hundreds of books and memorabilia to make room for her crib. I de-cluttered my collection of Beanie Baby stuffed animals, dolls and Fisher Price, Barbie doll toys. Everything is finally organized even my daughter's collection of musical CD's and cassettes. I will be dusting and vacuuming for the next.two weeks. it feels great I'm glad I've had the whole month to do a certain portion each day. My husband is very happy!!! emoticon emoticon

I guess my situation is a bit different. DH cares, but not enough to pull maintenance on anything. He only gets active about his concerns when visitors are anticipated, then he's a militant perfectionist. I am more of a 'routine' housekeeper figuring it is easier to keep it up then to get it back to clean and tidy once it has deteriorated, but I don't follow him around cleaning up his messes so things do get untidy at times. My solution was to have friends over for cards or a movie most every week. Now they have all moved away so I will have to come up with a different solution.

    Peace and Care

Great blog as usual! I can just see you flying around when you knew your brother was coming! Ha Ha, I am pretty sure your house never gets too dirty or cluttered.

We keep our house picked up so don't have that last minute panic. I do have to admit my hubby is fussier about having everything in its place, but I am more particular about it being clean. We balance each other pretty well, after 55 years you just learn to not take life so serious about some things.

I remember an Ann Landers Column where she told someone to take a bottle of rubbing alcohol and use it and a paper towel to go over the bathroom fixtures and sink before the guests arrive. They'll think you cleaned a lot and you didn't! I admit I HAVE used that in a pinch.
Elsewhere in the house you get what you get.

WHenever people come to my house, for some reason I hide all of my medications. I guess I don ot want them to see how many I have to take these days. Other than that, my mantra is they are coming to see me not the house. Thanks for a bit of a cuickle today.

THANK YOU!!!! for the laugh to start the day! My DH would have been the one cleaning every speck and as I've gotten older and now he's gone I fall more into the Don't Care category. A lot of things that used to be important just aren't anymore. As long as you enjoyed your brother's visit - it's all good. Have a SPARKLY day!!

Love the blog Jan and I know my hubby will only notice if things are 'not done' rather than if they are done! Although last week he had to go in a house near the canal in Preston and it was so cluttered and dirty he said he wouldn't comment about our house being messy again. emoticon emoticon

Also thanks for your comment on my blog, lets keep our blokes they have lots of good qualities too! emoticon

We love a beautiful, quiet, peaceful, clean home without strife so we’ve always hired a cleaning crew. 44 years of letting someone else clean.

Opposites do attract for sure! Especially when it comes to housework and yard work. I want to get it done, he doesn't or procrastinates until he just has to! emoticon
After 45 years we've learned to work around it and grin and bear it.

I am a bit obsessive and when people come here I have to clean the whole day or so before. I am expecting my sister to visit for a few days during Thanksgiving and will be cleaning from now until she gets here. I have 6 fur babies that live in the house and the hair is never ending. Between the dust from our lime rock road and the dust bunnies with hair it is almost impossible to keep the house the way I want it. Sometimes you just have to say to heck with all the cleaning and say if they are coming to judge my house keeping too bad. LOL I also have a table in my kitchen that seems to be a catch all. I will certainly have to clean it off. I don't eat at that table, I eat in the front room on a TV tray. :)

Thanks for sharing your story! Loved reading it!

LOL. Thanks for the chuckle for the day. The reason I had to chuckle was because when we are having company, I go into panic mode and DH thinks it's funny. I do have one problem solved. All I have in my medicine cabinet is extra bottles of soap and air fresheners. We have a small closet in our downstairs bath and it has a lock. We keep all ours meds in their and when we have company, I lock it. That way, I don't have to worry about children finding meds which could be dangerous.

I love the note in the medicine cabinet. My hubby is ex military and very tidy. I guess he learned this there. So he is a big help to me with cleaning. I am lucky in that regard.

I just love your blog. You have great blogs. emoticon

Thanks for the smile . I remember being told that they are coming to see you not the house but still you want it tidy. i fixed the bathroom snooping but not putting any thing in the cabinet in the bathroom t the latch doesn't hold so its always empty.

Thanks for the laugh! I do try to keep my house generally tidy, but I always like a chance to do a last-minute pick up of any missed placed items before guests arrive. I did have one experience where I invited a young man over for dinner when I was much younger. I had worked very hard to have my house tidy and immaculate . But at some point during the evening he ran his finger over the fabric lampshade, and told me the lampshade was dusty! Needless to say I did not appreciate his inspection.
