Raining ginkgo leaves

We have a 100+ year old ginkgo tree in our yard. The man who had the house built in 1905 planted it as a sapling. We love this tree. It has the fan shaped leaves.
In the fall the leaves turn a bright yellow. Then in one day, the tree begins to drop all of its leaves. It rains ginkgo leaves forming a golden carpet beneath. Our family always looks forward to that day, wondering when it will happen.
One year my middle son's science class was given a project. each child in the class was assigned a different tree. They had to find one of that kind of tree, research it, photograph it and present the report to the class. Imagine my son's excitement when he was assigned a ginkgo tree! HIs teacher tried to tell him where to find one, but he told her he had one in his yard. She was skeptical.
DUring the time of his assignment we took photos every day, as the leaves turned yellow. He kept hoping the leaves would drop before the report was due. ANd they did! Just in time to get the photos and have the film developed ( this was almost 30 years ago). It was the most invested I ever witnessed him being in a school project. He could not wait to tell the class about "his" tree.
Well, today is that day in 2019. As I was eating breakfast, I looked out the window and saw the leaves floating down. By the time I got outside, there was already a carpet, and the leaves were raining down. I was even covered with falling leaves by the time I went back into the house.
I hope we all can find something magical today, something that fills our heart with joy and makes us smile. Have a beautiful Saturday.
