I remember hearing the story of Persephone as a kid and thinking she be right dumb for falling for Hades' food trickery.
Till I had my 1st pomegranate. And then I was vehemently apologising to Persephone. That Hades is right tricksy.
I love, love pomegranates but they're a little pricey here. Yesterday I was passing by a fruit shop when I saw bags of pomegranates left abandoned and sad. They were only $2 for 4 yet no one was touching them! I was flabbergasted.
Sure they are old and slightly grotty looking but I had a feeling the arils would still be red and juicy. At the very worst I can made pomegranate juice.
I started the tedious work of prepping them. I don't care what miraculous hack you think you have, it's still messy and tedious. If I didn't love pomegranates so much, I would never touch the darn things.
I had so much arils, I decided to make pomegranate syrup. I've never attempted to before but I love them in the Middle Eastern food I've eaten.
So fingers crossed I don't bugger it up. I still have 2 more. If the syrup is a success I might go get more so I can make some for my neighbour and friends. Pomegranate syrup is expensive here!
