Coaching Notes - Day 3
{Daily Visualization

For today's visualization exercise, imagine yourself doing something at your goal weight that you can't do at your current weight, whether it's fitting into an airplane seat, riding a rollercoaster or walking up a flight of stairs without getting winded. How does it make you feel to see yourself actually doing it without pain or discomfort? Use that feeling to help you reach your goals today.}

I loved this visualization! I had so many things rush through my mind: dancing, hiking, riding my bike, skinnydipping in the lake under a full moon, archery, omg backpacking! The surprise was that the one I was most drawn to was yoga. I practiced a bit when I was younger, but as I became increasingly disabled and increasingly heavy, it just fell by the wayside. It's hard to do even simple stretches when my tummy is in the way. I've been looking around at yoga resources for fat girls that I can do at home, and I've found a few that look really promising. I weighed myself this morning and discovered that I've dropped 50 pounds from my top weight. Not only is this a huge WOOHOO but it's also a reward point, so I'm gonna send off for a couple of DVDs and pick up a cheapie player. (Don't get jealous, Roku, I still love you best.)

This was a useful visualization in two ways. I learned how many active things I really miss, especially ones that take place out in nature. That yearning is good motivation for me not only to stick to my efforts to get healthier and more active but also to work on the other issues (anxiety, agoraphobia, etc.) that keep me inside. I also realized that I don't have to wait until I lose weight to do most of those things. It might be harder to lick my own kneecaps with my Buddha belly in the way, but I'm sure I can find ways to safely accommodate my mobility and mass issues to achieve similar results. (I don't actually want to lick my own kneecaps, I'd just like to be limber enough that I could.)

{Today's action step is to choose one motivation technique and start using it to turn your spark into a flame!}

My no-fail every day motivation is my personal theme song, "Feelin' Good" by the incomparable Nina Simone.
