The Aftermath

Saturday, November 30, 2019

I forgot to mention something about Thanksgiving Day. My daughter and grandson live about an hour and forty-five minutes from our house. In September when my grandson turned 16 he got his =driving permit. On Thanksgiving he drove to my house in my daughter's car with her! He drove home also. She says he is a very good driver and he told me he likes driving. He has already passed his written test, but has to wait until next September to take the on the road test.
something else I wanted to tell you is about the dishes we use on holidays.
WHen we were married 46 years ago, one of my family members got us a set of 'special occasion" dishes. We have always been kind of no frills kind of people. These dishes were from Sears. But we have always cherished them.

I also have now acquired a set of dishes which my mother has and which were originally my paternal grandmother's. These are also very precious to me. They are so old, they cannot go into the dishwasher and must be hand washed.

IN addition my mother had a set of fancy silverware, which I also now have. NO it is not real silver, it is silver plated. But it came in a wooden box and we only use it on special occasions.

SInce we have two complete sets of dishes, I like to use them both on holidays. I alternate between place settings.

I do not think anyone else pays attention, but to me, it helps me remember family members who are no longer with us. I invite them to join us with these memories.
Today all that is left is the clean up. Putting away the sweet memories until next time. Because all of these things hold a special place in my heart, it is a blessing to clean them up and put them away.
I hope you all have a beautiful day.
