One of the things I enjoy about doing my Christmas decorating is the memories that many of the items stir up within me. for example this beautiful Christmas quilt.
My Aunt Rosie made it in the year before she passed away.
SHe hand stitched it all.
After she passed away in May 2018, her daughter, my cousin told me it has my name pinned to a tag on it. I was deeply touched.
My mother was one of eight siblings. SHe grew up in Tennessee a child of a migrant farmer. They had very little. Her mama taught the girls to sew and quilt. My mother never really took to quilting after she married and moved to NJ.
Though we only saw our Tennessee family once a year for 2 to 3 weeks in the summer, we were always very close to them. They always loved us unconditionally.
My AUnt Rosie was the youngest of the 6 sisters. ALl of her life she sewed and quilted.
WHen I was getting married, I asked her to make my wedding dress. I spent the summer before my wedding with her so she could do that.
Over the years as an adult, I spent quite a few summers staying with her and her daughter, after her husband passed away. We had a lot of good times and laughs.
ONe year she needed to have some surgery and my cousin asked me to come take care of AUnt Rosie when she came home from the hospital. I was pleased to be able to do so.
DUring those years, she made me a quilt, which I often have covering my bed.
Just putting that Christmas quilt on my bed this morning brought all of these wonderful memories to mind.
I hope you all have some memories like that too. It makes the holidays so very special.
Have a wonderful day.
