12/11/19 Ask; Go; Step Forward

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

"If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same spot."

"I heard he was a Thesaurus editor." Born: Beginning, delivery, bessed event Died: Gone, Lost, Expired, Departed, No More

Observing The Baby One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby's crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, delight, amazement, enchantment, skepticism. Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arm around her husband. "A penny for your thoughts," she said. "It's amazing!" he replied. "I just can't see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $67.50."

It's Holiday Food Drive for Needy Animals Day! Today's annual event is to collect food and supplies for all animals at shelters. Check your local shelters and find the nearest collection point. Those furbabies need us.
--International Mountain Day: today is an UN initiative to recognize the importance of mountains to the social and economic health of the cities around them; plus, remember your science teacher showing how the mountains were a vital part of the weather systems for collecting the snow pack which became our water and influencing the storm tracks; mountains provide 60-80 percent of our fresh water.
--National App Day: no explanation how this day came to be; an "app" is short for "software application," which is a type of computer program; today an app usually refers to those used on mobile devices, but it initially referred to those on desktop computers as well; apps became common on cell phones after phones were equipped with internet capability, touchscreens, and processing chips; there are conferences about coding and the tech jobs needed in this ever changing industry.
--National Have a Bagel Day: not to be confused with Bagel Day in February; a day to enjoy a bagel whose origins are in the Jewish population of Europe in the 1600's.
--National Noodle Ring Day: I had never seen this but the noodle ring is a big deal in some traditions; a type of noodle dish made in a ring mold or Bundt pan; cooked noodles are mixed with flour, eggs, milk, and cheese then baked in the ring and the center is often filled with creamed chicken, fish, or vegetables.
-- In 1946, UNICEF was established to work for the welfare of children around the world. Remember collecting pennies for UNICEF at Halloween?
