Win Today Checklist - 2020 Winter 5% Challenge

Sunday, December 29, 2019

So, I've been challenged to think about my daily routine, and that's when I realized that I have a big hole in my nice plan.

My morning routine is just right. I have plenty of time to do the things I need to do before I head off to work. But that's where things fall apart. By the end of the day I am tired and hungry and I often don't want to do stuff. Based on an experiment I did earlier in the year, I do better when I finish up my eating early in the evening.

Here's what I'd like to see my routine help me fix:
I'd like to get rid of that evening empty feeling (leads me to snack before dinner, through dinner, and after dinner)
I'd like to sleep better
I'd like to get in more nutritious foods

Since 2020 is the year of not being afraid to try new things, I guess I'll do it!

My basic routine (once I go back to work) will be:
Wake up
Bible study
Huge whole foods breakfast
Catch up with Spark (BLC, 5% Challenge)
Sign language practice
Go to work
Eat what I can from the school lunch, supplement with lunch from home
In the last hour of the day, finish food from home if I have an evening activity*
Wash dish at work
Nights without an evening activity, I'll go straight home and have dinner
After Work:
*Mon: Go to the gym
*Tue: Bouldering/Grocery shopping
Wed: Night off or ballet (once a month: prayer meeting)
*Thur: Sign language circle/language exchange/bouldering
Fri: Night off/Gym
Post evening activity, I'll prep for the following day. Mostly the following day's lunch, but I'd like to prep clothes as well.

I've added a calendar reminder to make lunch for the following day on weeknights. I'm excited to try out this routine and see how I feel! I'll give it a go for the month of January and then tweak it as necessary.

Maybe you could also prep some "grab and go" healthy snacks for those times in the evening when you feel the need for a snack. I actually keep a list of healthy snacks handy so I don't have to think too hard about what to have and it keeps me from grabbing something less healthy. I cut up celery and keep baby carrots around--they are great snack items. I love how well thought out your plans always are. I have been so set on my routines that any variance caused me anxiety but now I am at the point where I allow myself some flexibility. You've got this!
