Needed: Eyes To See
Wednesday, January 15, 2020
I had to run by the library tonight, and I must have passed right by this spectacular spider web on my way into the building... it was above my head, but was about a yard in diameter, and the spider itself was about the size of a quarter... I know people who are truly freaked out by spiders, but I kind of like them, despite reading Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and countless other giant spider stories.
What amazes me is that I didn’t notice the web AT ALL on my way IN to the library, but found it immediately on my way out to the car...
Taking a photo of a spiderweb at night seemed like an impossible task, but I THINK these capture its essence.... I would have liked to have seen it in the daylight to get an idea of where it’s anchor strands were attached.... it was pretty high, but not near any tall structures except the lamppost closest to it... I was surprised that I hadn’t walked into one of those anchor strands (I’m pretty tall)
I’m fascinated.... and I probably would have missed it in the bright daylight ... and it probably won’t survive to tomorrow... spiderwebs tend to be quite ephemeral...
So I enjoy them when I see them! And they are so good for bug control! There is much to love about spiders.... (this was one of the few things my DH and I disagreed about... he really REALLY didn’t like spiders...)
