my first job was weeding and mowing grass with the old push mower in a cemetery for 50 cents an hour. my actually regular paying job when i was 16 and a junior in high school was a cashier at a Kroger grocery store. this was when a person had to punch in the numbers by hand. not the scanning registers they have today. 34 days ago
At fifteen years, I went from store to store looking for work, but was turned away due to age. Immediately after turning 16 I was hired at a retail store as a cashier. It was W.T. Grant Company on 2020 Athens Avenue, Redding, California. I was over the moon happy and earned $2.10 per hour to start. Learned to count money on the old fashioned register. Thanks for asking. 34 days ago
For an insurance company ... in their data processing dept... worked up to the job of computer programming.. way back in the early 1960's.. it was a vacuum tube computer.. I have long since forgotten what the programming technology was called... then they brought in a new fancy computer... and hired a 'guy' to learn & write the programming .. all was not lost... years later when I was job hunting... that job played a big part in my getting a really good job.. meanwhile, that insurance company was bought or merged with or was taken over by other larger companies and its name eventually disappeared ...
I know more information that you cared to know. God has been good to me.. found me adequate and good jobs when and where needed. also kept me alive and relatively unscathed when the odds were not in my favor.
