Move Like Your Life Depends On It! Guess what? It does! According to James Levine, M.D., Ph.D., director of Obesity Solutions at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and Arizona State University, “Excess sitting is now linked with 35 diseases and conditions, including obesity, hypertension, back pain, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and depression,” he says. “Governments such as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom have identified sedentary life as a catastrophe.”

I want to see the quality of my life improve, so I walk, jog, bike, dance, swim or use my elliptical machine. When the weather is warmer, I use my kayak. If one form of movement starts to hurt, I try another. I used to hike high mountains, now I get in just as many steps walking in the neighborhood and lower peaks. Maybe I'm slowing down a bit, but I keep moving.
My heart is alive and beating well. It's my goal to move my body, and keep that heart beating!
