January 22, 2020 ARE YOU GIVING?
It is so easy to take all our money and spend it on ourselves. Or we could watch our money so closely that we believe we don’t have anything to give because it takes all we have to make ends meet. However, we do have enough to give. God gives us enough to take care of ourselves and to give to others. It is part of His plan. We are here on this earth to make a contribution with our time, talents and treasures. We are to give for the right reasons – not for our own glory but to truly help others and to give God the glory. In our goals for this year, we need to make plans to give and to give generously.
Matthew 6:1-4 “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (NLT)
1. Write what you give to others.
2. List some other areas you can give.
3. Decide to plan some extra giving this year.
4. Pray and ask God for opportunities to give more.
Dear Lord, remind us daily everything we are blessed with. Remind us You call us to give and to give generously. We know we work to take care of our own needs but also to give to others. Help us to see opportunities every day to help someone in need or to do a random act of kindness to a stranger. We want You to receive the glory in all we give as we thank You for Your blessings. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
We work so we can take care of our needs and we can give to those in need.
Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.” (NLT)
Our hard work is to provide for ourselves and to give to others what God has blessed us with.
Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NLT)
We are to set goals for our work and for our giving. We should plan to give generously as God calls us to do.
Ephesians 4:28b “use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.” (NLT)
