Almost Three Weeks Since My Accident

Monday, January 27, 2020

I spent another week laying low due to my head injury. When I get up and walk around too much, the vibration of my steps literally makes my head feel like my brain is moving around. The neurologist said that this phenomenon often occurs after head trauma, mild or not. It's very irritating and causes a lot of pain. My head, neck, shoulder and back hurt when I stand, when I sit and when I'm laying down. The nausea has one really great side affect - I really don't feel like eating. I go back to the neurologist in a week and a half for the results of my brain MRI. I was assured that if something really awful showed up on the test, they would call before then. Fingers crossed. In the mornings, when I'm rested, my speech and thinking are better. By evening, I have trouble speaking in complete sentences. I've been told this is normal. Not normal for me but normal with a head injury.

I gave up sweets on December 26th and have had zero desire to eat them since my accident on January 7th. There is only one thing I do eat with added sugar and that is GoMacro protein bars. Some have 12 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber and they are vegan, completely organic, non GMO, non dairy and gluten free. They are also expensive. But...I'm worth it. They are made with fruit, whole grains, good fats, rice syrup, some have nuts, pea protein etc. and when eaten with a glass of water, they keep me full all morning. It is the only sweet thing other than fruit that has entered my mouth for the last 33 days! They have a fairly good amount of calories 240 to 270 each but I've never had a bar fill me up like this one does. They are actually quite perfect to eat after a workout. i plan to test how good they are after a workout, once I'm better! Right now, I eat them instead of force feeding myself. They don't seem to make me feel nauseous, which is amazing. They have great flavor and aren't hard. Chewing hard things makes my head throb, so this is a good choice for me.

I'm also eating lots of salads and soft fruits and cooked veggies. I've taken a shine to tuna and brown rice medley - often with leftover cooked veggies. Lean proteins cut into little pieces seem to be okay. Anything hard to chew is out. The neurologist initially said that the injury can last 6 months to one year to heal. It better not! I don't think I could stand laying low and feeling sick for that long. Sigh, I will do what I need to do in order to get better. It just seems very unfair. Which of course it is. But then....life in general is unfair sometimes so I will suck it up and deal with it.

Aw, Cyndi, what are we going to do with that body???? I could not believe when I began reading this blog. Sweetheart, you need a BREAK (not of any body part either). I am glad you seem to like your doctor. That helps a lot.

Your mail thing is CAUTION of everything you do. John and I send prayers and I will be back every day to check on you. GET BETTER SOON!!! Try to do all that the doctor says to do!
