What makes us change, make different choices?

Today's blog-de'jour has the guy with a major underlying medical problem overcoming odds, staying positive, staying focused, staying with a can-do attitude--totally, a winner.

Sometimes I hear these tear-jerking human interest stories, and think "My God, if this guy can do it with some major illness/disease, then why can't I?"

I'm like the billions -I'm older and unless I adopt the habits of my young friend, I'm almost virtually guaranteed to die soon from diabetes, heart disease or cancer. My family is not predisposed to diabetes, but almost all mortality in my family is due to heart disease and cancer.

So, the young, inspirational Spark-People story guy--will that motivate me? So, the foreboding of major illness staring at me like the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come--will that scare me into changing my ways?

I don't know. Yes. No. Maybe. I'd like it to. But I'm 63. It's getting a damn spite harder to change habits. Oy.

Ok, I'm feeling better today. So, I'm writing my food down. It helps to remind myself that I ate a whole pizza yesterday. And I've done a paltry amount of exercise this week. So, ok.

So, I'm feeling better. Did I eat that healthy food I brought for lunch, or did I go to the bar and have a fish sandwich and enough tater-tots to feed a small army? You figure it out.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm recording my food/exercise here.

This evening, it would be great to youtube some 20 minute workout and shake my booty. Will I do that? Probably not. At least I'm TALKING about doing it. I wanted to walk today, but it's raining.

No excuses! Put on the ladies in their spandex's and have at to dancing!

I don't think my cat Dawson will appreciate my indoor aerobics.

That's ok.

I got Dawson his own pink 'hello-kitty' spandex, complete with a pink headband. My hope is that he'll get with the program, doing his kitty-aerobics from the couch.

They need to add a cat to the back row of those aerobic videos on youtube--you know, the folks doing the 'less-strenuous' version of the steps? Maybe that would motivate Dawson to get off my lap and get moving.

Maybe if I got off the couch, Dawson would get off my lap.

Motivating him to actually don the spandex--now that's for another day.

Fight the battles we can. The war will still be here tomorrow.

So, they won't impeach. ok. We keep fighting the good fight. We can help fight the darkness that we flounder in--by taking BETTER CARE OF OURSELVES.

Put your mask on. Then the child mask.

Or as my Viking heritage teaches me: Pillage THEN burn. Pillage THEN burn.
