Years ago I discovered plain, non-fat Greek yogurt mixed with fruit. It took me a while to get used to the fact that the yogurt is not sweet. So I concentrate on the taste of the fruit. Pineapple is my favorite, but I also like berries.
I used to add granola topping for a crunch, until I read the label... lots of carbs and sugar! So now I add shaved almonds... perfect. Still has lots of fat, but I only add a half serving. It satisfies me until lunch.
I've read that if you get in a rut with your meals, it could back fire. But I really, really like my yogurt and fruit breakfast! Don't get me wrong, I like eggs and bacon too... but that is considered a special treat now.
For lunch, I have a spinach salad mixed with a protein and added fruits and veggies. I use Ken's Lite salad dressing and it is so yummy! I occasionally will have a deli sammy, and that is a treat for me since I love sammies!
One might think that I'm in a food rut, but I'm actually quite happy with my meals! Today DH asked if I was eating strawberry shortcake for breakfast. I explained that it was strawberries and yogurt (I always put the fruit on the bottom of my bowel, and yogurt on top, then give a stir). But you know what? I'll go with that! I'm eating strawberry shortcake for breakfast today!
Am I in a food rut? I don't think so! What is your go-to food that you can't live without?
