Presidents Day - Jimmy Carter

Monday, February 17, 2020

This is our assignment for the Aspire and Inspire sparkteam: Presidents Day is a federal holiday which, in the United States, is observed on the third Monday in February. This day is set aside to honor all of the past United States Presidents that have served our country. Do you have a favorite president? Is there a president you’d like to learn more about?

To be honest, I don’t know much about his politics, but I really admire Jimmy Carter for what he has done since serving as U.S. President. Wikipedia writes about his post-presidential activities, saying, “In 1982, Carter established the Carter Center to promote and expand human rights. He has traveled extensively to conduct peace negotiations, monitor elections, and advance disease prevention and eradication in developing nations. Carter is considered a key figure in the Habitat for Humanity charity. He has written over 30 books ranging from political memoirs to poetry,” Today, at age 95, he still does many of these activities. Another thing Jimmy Carter does is to teach Sunday School at his local church in Plains, Georgia. About a year and a half ago, I went with my parents to Jimmy Carter’s Sunday School class. His lesson was about getting your priorities straight, and saying yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. He also talked about how if you weren’t happy with your life, you needed to change it. It was a very good lesson. He did a wonderful job teaching, and after the worship service he and his wife Rosalynn posed for pictures with everyone. Here is our picture with the Carters.
