February 23, 2020 A POWERFUL SWORD
We all know the power of a sword. A sword can cut through most anything and destroy. When God’s word is compared to a sword it means His word is able to help us to fight against our enemy, Satan. Jesus used God’s word to fight off Satan when He was tempted. So can we.
Many people believe the Bible is just another old book. However, there has been more copies of the Bible sold than any other book. We can read the Bible over and over and gain new insight and understanding. His word is alive and powerful; however, we have to read it and apply it to our lives.
We have God’s word because He loves us and wants us to know how to live for Him. We read His word so we can know what to do according to His will and to better understand who He truly is. His word will guide us like no other book we could ever read.
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (NLT)
1. Write about how you study God’s word.
2. List ways His word has helped you.
3. Meditate on God’s word and feel His presence.
4. Pray using God’s word and feel His peace.
Dear Lord, thank You for Your word. Thank You for the insight and wisdom that comes from Your word. Thank You for the power and direction that comes from Your word. When You say Your word is alive and powerful, we know we need it for life. When You say Your word is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, we know we need it for protection. When you say Your word exposes our innermost thoughts and desires, we know we need it for guidance. Thank You, Lord, for Your word. Help us to better understand Your word and use it for all we do in life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God’s word will produce fruit when we read it and apply it to our lives.
Isaiah 55:11 “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” (NLT)
God’s word is powerful enough to help us when we are dealing with tough situations.
Jeremiah 23:29 “‘Does not my word burn like fire?’ says the Lord. ‘Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?’” (NLT)
God knows what we need to learn and provides that to us in His word right when we need it. His word will help us fight off the enemy.
Ephesians 6:17b “take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (NLT)
