I did something today

Thursday, March 05, 2020

It's raining here in NC... so no walking the hood with the pups. Instead, DH and I went to the fitness center at the clubhouse and worked out. I have bad knees... they have dislocated several times in my younger years. I have to do a lot of quad exercises to keep the kneecap stable in the joint. And I haven't been doing that lately... truth be told, it's been a year since I've done my quad workout. And my knees are slipping, even when I walk. So....I did my quad workout today... amazing how difficult it was after so many months off! But I felt very accomplished afterwards. Then I jumped on the stationary bike, which is good for my knees AND cardio. Then I jumped on the treadmill to get my steps in. I believe in the theory of HIIT when working out. So usually I add 1 minute jog intervals throughout my tread workout. But yesterday, my knee slipped, so I decided it was best to play it safe and stay at a steady walk. Only, it's sooooo boring... even with my buds playing my fave music. I usually walk at an incline, typically 10%. On a whim, I upped it to 20% today, and after a couple of minutes decreased it back to 10. I did that a few times and slowly increased to 40%. That's when I noticed a pattern on the screen of the treadmill. It was looking like little mountains! So I focused on making perfect little mountains on the screen. Which totally kept my mind occupied and I believe I got the same benefit from jogging in intervals! The next thing I knew, 35 minutes had gone by and it was time to cool down! Anyway, just thought I'd share my little discovery. I'm sure everybody already knew this feature, and I'm just late in the game. Gotta admit, I'm kind of looking forward to my next session with the tread! Have a great day!

I'm a bit jealous of your treadmill workout. The fitness center in our community center is closed to enforce the social distancing in our retirement community. Yes, I've learned to create all kinds of patterns in the panel lights. Those mountains can be steep or gradual, or they can be canyons and cliffs. It's much easier for me to stay at a target heart rate for HIIT on a treadmill than on a trail where's there too many distractions. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like a great workout. I use my recumbent bike because of a tricky knee and can make adjustments and was advised by therapist to use it instead of treadmill. I still walk and love to use videos to dance and get extra exercise. Enjoy the HIIT! Love the Leslie Sansone HIIT workout! emoticon

There's an application called Seconds Pro. It runs on 'everything'. Laptop, desktop, Iphone, Android, etc. Pretty cheap too. I use it to setup HIIT programs myself...
    Way to go... and

Congrats! Glad you discovered the mountains. Anything that helps you stay on the treadmill longer is a good thing. emoticon
