The Dreaded C

Friday, March 13, 2020

Just a heads up I'm voicing my opinion. Most likely it differs from yours. Please no hate mail. So, I'm really pissed about this stupid virus. I'm now on an enforced 3wk vacation. I work with seniors. ALL of the senior centers in my town are closed. By center I mean the ones that have activities and the like. Then the school district did an automated phone blast. All non essential activities have been cancelled or postponed. I know this is all precautionary and a good idea(maybe?) and I don't want anyone sick but this is screwing with people's livelihoods. I think this is going to be a bigger impact financially than health wise. Of course our mental health is going to be a mess. Grocery shopping is kinda torturous right now. I finally found TP at Food 4 Less. It's taken me a week to find some. It ain't great but it'll do. I've been trying to be purposely ignorant. Because if I keep this actively in the forefront of my mind I'm gonna completely lose my sh... Of course The Man finds this whole crap fest fascinating and wants to give me continuous updates. Not to mention everyone else who wants to talk about it. So, anyway I'm trying to find positives in all this. People that I care about will hopefully be safer. No one that I know and none of their kin is ill. I don't have to work on my birthday. I can work some more on my house and garden. I can walk the mount. Have a pic of my doggo. He helps me to keep calm and carry on.

Yes, this has been extremely hard financially for a lot of people and small businesses, too. But maybe it will help to consider this perspective - if someone gets sick from this virus, even if they do survive, it doesn't mean they just get a pesky cough and then go on their way. Many people who recover had to spend time in the hospital. Can you imagine the expenses they incur from that? My biggest fear from this epidemic isn't getting sick and dying, but getting hospitalized and living to be burdened with the bill. I imagine even people who have insurance get stuck with nasty deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket expenses. And I don't have insurance. Yikes. I pray you'll be able to make the best of your forced vacation and make it through the financial burdens without too much distress!! emoticon

I think the take home message is be safe for yourself and others. It will pass and hopefully without devastating our elders. I think it’s mostly for them. My 0.02 cents...

Your dog is beautiful πŸ’“. We just have to be patient with this virus thing 😷. The living center where my mom is is off limits too until further notice. Our schools are closing starting Monday the 16th for 3 weeks. Just pray we all make it through.

Your dog is awesome! At least spending extra time with him will be a plus. However, the situation is difficult and frustrating now!

I understand your frustrations. I also understand your dilemma re your work situation. I was a Caregiver for many years, and my daughter followed in my foot-steps. She works in a day facility with physically/mentally disabled adults. They love to sprawl out all over their caregivers, and try to poke fingers into mouths etc. All but one needs a nappy and some have to be thoroughly cleaned down multiple times in a day. I feel very much so for the oldies in care homes, too. They are very vulnerable and aren't able to self-isolate etc. All we can do is hope and pray. Because basic sanitary supplies are getting very hard to come by, I managed to order a few boxes of examination gloves and tissues as well as some baby wipes to donate to where my daughter works, which is a local charitable trust. When I looked at the Medical Supplier's site a couple days after my order, they had run out of everything. I managed to get them just in time. They arrived yesterday.

I am sure it WILL impact on most people financially. We are fortunate that our government has made it much easier for any whose livelihoods have been or will be impacted by this scourge.

Your pooch is gorgeous. He looks like a wonderful therapy dog :-) They are very trusting and caring animals. xxx

I agree. So sick of all this. I went grocery shopping yesterday. Needed to pick up a few non-food items as well (yes TP was one of them!). I could not believe the shelves. I also needed toilet bowl cleaner. NONE!! I'm like what is the deal?

I understand your frustration. My husband is a professor at the local university. He has an extra week of spring break so he can turn his classes into virtual classes.

I can't agree more. This stupid virus has made life more difficult all around. You are right though when you said that people you care about and none of their kin are sick. The inconvenience of trying to find certain things in the stores can only teach us patience and that is the best thing I can say about it. Your sweet dog is the best reason for having to stay home so spend your time with him and wait until its all over.
