The Spring 5% Challenge is about to begin ... YAY!
Sunday, March 29, 2020
I got my invitation 2020 Spring 5% Challenge Walkers, Runners, Joggers team. This was a team that I never considered in the previous 5% challenges, yet now it appears that this is the perfect team for me.
In October I began tracking my steps. I started out with a goal of 3,000 steps. I added 500 steps every week until I got to 10,000 steps. In order to do this, I had to get out and walk at least two times each day. The virtual walk along the Appalachian Trail and the accompanying pictures on www.walking4fun.com
motivated me to get out and walk.
Unfortunately, now things have changed. I live in South Texas, not far from the Mexican border. The temperatures have been in the 90s with high humidity. The UV Index has been at 11 (or Extreme). Normally this is not a problem. I would go to our fitness center during the day. But because of the COVID-19 virus it is shut down.
Now I putter around in my yard while it is early (and shady). I also walk at night with my mother and aunt around 10:00 pm. I have also dialed back my goal to 7500 steps per day, a goal that I often have to stretch to achieve before midnight. I'm still virtually hiking but I'm just not getting as far down the trail as I would like. It might take me close to 2 years to complete the hike (at the rate I am going now) but at least I am moving forward.
I am on the right team because I am going to continue to walk my way to fitness!
