Waiting....

Sunday, April 05, 2020

There is a convoy of forklifts hauling luggage trolleys. The gangway is in place and we see the Aussies and Kiwis leaving. We expect to get a phone call when there is a flight for us. That is the time we will go through U.S. Customs and Immigration.

I am removing a section of this blog till I get home.

I understand there are people who consider us idiots for cruising, but seriously we were unaware of any dangers when we started out. Some assume the government is paying for our flights home. Fact - Princess Cruises is booking our flights and paying them. Thank you Princess. In our attempts to get home, when we thought we might be able to dock and go to the airport, 4 times we booked non-refundable Air Canada flights. We paid for those flights personally. The government of Canada does provide repayable loans of up to $5,000 for stranded travelers in need but we did not need it.

Here is a link to Scott Brown's article.

Alan is serenading me with the ukulele, the instrument he took up on the cruise. Soon it will be time to play cards.

Girl, this whole thing has been moving so fast. I actually went on a cruise the second week of March, leaving on March 9. The US State Department only issued a travel warning on March 8 for elderly and infirm for cruising. It wasn't until March 13 that Trump declared a national emergency. If you were eight days into your cruise, how could you have known?

We paid $1000 to get home, not from a cruise, but just a Snowbird getaway from the harsh winter. Also unaware of the true danger until 3 weeks in, and urgent call to return.

You and your fellow passengers are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you get home soon. None of us foresaw this pandemic. No one should be blaming you. Travel gives us many wonderful experiences. And let’s be honest, the virus is here in my hometown as well.

A cruise was my all time favorite holiday. I loved it and since you could not look into the future, no wonder you were on a cruise.
We were on a trip to the US to visit family when all this started. Our flight home was in time for Air Canada to message us that they were using hospital grade cleaning before we boarded. Everyone was careful. We arrived in Vancouver and then got in our car and drove home. It takes two days to drive home, so we had to make necessary stops and we used every precaution to keep us safe and the people around us.
At home, we self isolated with the help of our son, who has shopped for us.
Good luck getting home and enjoy being there. emoticon

I did know so I guess I should have spoken up. I wish I had now but I tend to mind my own business as a lot of people don't like bad news. In my defense I did not anticipate anything like this coronavirus thing. I had only read about all the other problems with cruises because I \wanted to go on a cruise and hubby said "no way." It was a nice article on you and I had no idea things had gotten that bad, If only people could have gotten off sooner maybe things would have been different Sad. I will never go on a cruise.

Lynn if you look back on your blogs, on when you were preparing for your trip and all the way thru when you left, not one person mentioned the Cruise Line with sick people and the CoronaVirus. That's because no one what knew but the cruise line and some governments. I went to the article you have here and read some of the nasty comments. You know you really didn't know, but neither did they. What's your proof? Someone would have warned you here on your blogs dating back then. This is a nightmare for you. And yes, you are unbelievable in your strength. I just had to let you know how easy it is for people to look at reports and think you must have known,AFTER the fact. God bless you today and get you home.

Cruise cost usually. I am providing this information because it sounds like you maybe taking another cruise after this clears up!

Or an incident similar to yours happened. Worst case if my mother or I had a major sudden stroke/heart attack we would be taken by helicopter to our nearest USA hospital. Cost varies- this was a week cruise from Florida to Mexico. Approximately 1-3%

After the Diamond Princess debacle with the virus in February... my personal opinion is the cruise lines were too slow to suspend operations. Glad you're okay!

Travel insurance means for any reason before the trip - you chose to cancel your trip within 60 days 100% back 30 days 90% and I think the lowest was 80% refund or book another cruise. Medical emergency insurance covered us if we got ill aboard ship

Thank you for sharing you experience. Agree that you sound so positive, strong and confident through it all. I also pray for your safe return. I have only taken one cruise but I did buy travel cancellation and emergency medical insurance before going
