Why, oh why, do I yo-yo with weight? I've lost track over the years of the pounds I lost and found. I realize that part of the reason for this is the human condition, i.e. failure to achieve perfection. I've been searching over several decades for the answer to this question, I feel I'm on the precipice of discovery, so I'm putting on the weight-loss armor and going back to square 1.
I wholeheartedly embrace the following paradigm: Weight loss doesn't begin in the kitchen or the gym; weight loss begins in the mind. Write that down and post it all over your house, laptop, and phone because MINDSET is what determines your level of success!
Here I am, a certified Health Coach and Type 2 diabetic (oh yeah, add that word obese). Do I know what to do? Have I studied nutrition? Do I know how to manage type 2 Diabetes? You bet your sweet patoot I do!!! And just like so many people out there, I don't put that knowledge and skill to use when it comes to coaching myself. And despite that little factoid, I am a good coach; my clients get results!
You would think I could coach myself. That's right, you would think! The truth is, every coach needs other coaches. We need other coaches to hold us accountable so that we can hold space for our clients to reach their goals. We need other coaches to continue to hone and improve our skills. We need other coaches so that we can continue to do all we can to support and love on our clients.
So, today I am back to tracking my food on SparkPeople. Truth to tell I hate tracking every bite I eat, but I know down to my bones that tracking my food and drink intake is the first big step on my journey...followed by regular (15-30 minutes/day to start) cardio and weight training exercise. I also know down to my bones that it's never too late to take those big steps on a weight-loss journey.
I also know that it isn't just about weight-loss...that's probably last on the list of why I won't give up. I won't continue to give up my good health, my energy, my self-love, my love for my family just because I want to eat foods that do not support good health. I want to be an example of what can be.
If you think a health coach can help you, do not "weight" any longer to reach out. Be brave, be bold, own your current condition so that you can create a more healthy, strong, fit you.
