Still In Limbo

Saturday, May 16, 2020

Time to call the Doc but not sure I'm too anxious about going. I may be forced to visit the dentist as a couple teeth are falling apart. One more downside of getting older is that you start to outlive the expected lifespan of tooth repairs. The shelter in place hasn't been a huge adjustment for me as we're still permitted to go out for fitness activities and that's about all I did anyway. This crisis has dragged me kicking and screaming into the twenty first century as all but one of my bills is now paid online and I'm even depositing incoming checks via a phone app. I ordered an Xbox One X about a month ago and it's still on back-order. Even the MS website has very little in stock. Their support tech offered to search the country for me, but I fear that would mean losing the $100 discount I have locked in with the one on order plus the shop I ordered from pays the sales tax for you in the form of a rebate. Anyway, still have the old 360 and lots of other entertainment, so no real boredom as yet. Stay well everyone!

I got the Xbox a couple of days after writing that. Everything works great and I have it connected to a 4k TV, so picture quality is great. I love the headphone jack in the controller so I can play in the middle of the night and not disturb DW. My great complaint is the deceptive BS they have pulled with the "backward compatible" 360 games. I play only single-player games so I don't have any need for game tickets or Xbox Live Gold and have just been using the free version of the online account. Well lo, and behold... yes, you can play 360 games but you can't save them without paying for Gold. I thought that was pretty sleazy. Using a refill card from eBay which has worked for me in the past I can get it for under $4 a month, so I guess that's what I'll do. Oh well, it's always something.

I think this has been a real reality check for most of us.
I have a dental cleaning appointment next week, which was scheduled six months ago at my last cleaning. I feel pretty comfortable going. I know they will take every precaution.

Our state is slowly going to open up at the end of next week, and I am really impressed by how our Governor has been handling it.

    Keep cautious and stay safe.

The most significant inconveniences caused by this epidemic are not going to the gym and going to the grocery store, otherwise, we're managing it well. I still have an Xbox 360 but have not got back into gaming since I've moved.

Wishing you well, my Spark Friend!

A lot of game systems are on backorder. I guess everyone had the same idea during the crisis. Take care!
