Two weeks ago, at the urging of my cousins, I signed up for The Great Mississippi River Run Virtual 5k. My plan was to train for it for the month of June, mapping out a route, increase my speed and endurance. However, my cousins picked yesterday as the day that all four of us would do it together, virtually. I agreed, and we set 9am CST as our start up time. 8am for me. My cousins live in Delaware, New Orleans, and Austin...and I am in NC. But we all grew up in St. Louis...thus the Mississppi River connection.
I wound up setting out at 6:30 to beat the heat, humidity, and rain storms that were forecasted. It was a beautiful, overcast morning...cool, but very humid. It didn't take long to work up a sweat! I stopped and took pics of the wonderment of God's green earth.
I finished my 5k in 56 min, 49 sec. And felt extremely proud of myself! It was my first! Nonetheless, I had earmarked June as the month I would complete a 5k. I've now decided that I will continue training so I can beat my record. So now my June goal: beat my 5k record of 56 min, 49 sec.
Wish me luck!
