Chainsawing logs & battling slugs in garden

Friday, June 12, 2020

Hubby & I are getting ready to improve the road up to our mountain spring. There have been four trees that have fallen across the old road, that need to be cleared along with quite a bit of brush & small pine tree removal. So yesterday we were able to get two big trees chopped up (abt 12' & 15" diameter. Thank goodness we had a tractor to push the 15' long logs around & cut up log sections to our burn pile. In addition we had quite a bit of brush; that has killer thorns on it (I'll have to find out what kind of shrubs they area). In addition, we had to cut out a lot of electric fence wire that was tied around these 2 trees.

Need less to say after about 8 hours of doing this we were pooped and slept like rocks! We've still got alot to do, but it was a good start.

On another note; I need some suggestions for battling SLUGS!! I've not wanted to use slug bait poison and have been trying to slug hunt at sundown and in the morning; but they are winning the war. The have just about destroyed all of my seedlings that included: carrots, spinach and lettuce. What else can I do???

good luck with the slugs! We used beer traps and surrounded the seedlings with crushed eggshells and coffee grounds. It was less time-consuming that catching them by hand.
