Empty Nest, fourth time 'round

Wednesday, June 17, 2020

Tacy moved Monday and there were tears, many tears. This is the 4th time she's left home, granted she was only here 3 months this time. But before this I had not been serious about watching my diet. Just one extra person made a ton of difference, suddenly there was all kinds of food I Should Not even think about and it was hard to avoid, plus the girl likes her take out, especially when you can get a decent cocktail in a Mason Jar! When we got word that her job was prepping for employees to return I kinda lost my mind and cooked and ate. In a matter of days my feet had lost their shape and looked foreign to me. The skin so full and tight, no shape, I wanted to take a pin and pop them like a balloon. It's been a miserable few weeks. I weighed myself today and when I went to check the # all I could do was stare at my feet!!! My toes were normal and I could see the tendons and veins-oh I missed those and my ankles have shape again! Finally I looked at the # and it was down 8 lbs from Monday, in those 2 days I Finally lost all that water... I had been so uncomfortable. I really have got to pay attention to the sodium

Lesson had been learned, I hope it sticks this time - I have work to do!

I miss my girl!

I wonder if drinking more water would have helped? We need some sodium to help our food digest in our stomach. The wrong foods can make us feel miserable in all kinds of ways. This pandemic is causing lots of people to gain weight. Including us!!! Sigh.

Hugs Marbea, it is difficult when our kids leave home but we have to accept their independence and be thankful that they are living productive lives. I struggle at times as my daughter lives and works in Scotland; we were to be together in August but with COVID all has changed and we don't know when we will get to be together again. A one year hiatus may turn into two but we are most thankful for the internet and all the wonderful ways we can stay in touch.
Take care, I too am glad to hear that with no take out food for a week you have lost some of the edema in your feet and legs, keep it up!

I understand. Wishing you better days ahead. And, how wonderful that you have the kind of friendship that you miss when she is gone.

It's not easy when they first leave; I thought the empty nest syndrome was awful, but eventually I got thru it and over it, and went on with my own hobbies and interests.(I think it is a lot harder on mothers than it is fathers) ..... One day I thought it over, and realized how many years I had 'just me' before children came along. I seemed to manage life just fine and decided I should be fine once they are gone too. I also had to come to grips with the fact, they are like birds who live in the nest we provide, but when they are able, they fly free to try their wings and find their place. It seems sad, but when I put it into perspective, it definitely helped. For some, it takes longer than others, but it is sad if the empty nest syndrome goes on and on. It is not healthy then, and it is good to find things to occupy our time and hearts. (It is painful, and that is why I don't like to see people going through it) ..... I'm glad the swelling went down in your feet, and I hope things come together well for you.
