I have to agree. Doesn't matter if you don't like the statue or what you think it may stand for, destroying something that doesn't belong to you is always wrong! There are other ways to address this issue. And it obviously has nothing to do with racism, since all statues now seem to be a target, including those of people who stood against slavery and racism, and even fought against it.
Statues in the past HAVE been removed, and some relocated to places like museums, where they can serve as education of where this country was and how far we have come since then. If you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it. And if you are bent on erasing all traces of that history, then you have nothing left to actually learn from

Maybe those statues are offensive and old white men who erected them were on the wrong side of history.

Yes, it's a shame when historical statues are being removed and streets renamed in a poor attempt to erase history. So instead of getting depressed, grab your camera and go visit any of these historical sites that are still standing and document them. Go to the library and research the archives for images of the statues that have been removed and save them. Compile a memory book as reminder of all the local sites that have been renamed, removed or replaced and share it with those you love, and the neighbors. Submit them to the public in a blog. Tell others about the historical significance of these sites and why it is important to remember these people for what they accomplished or why it is important to remember.
You may not be able to stop the removal, but you can do something to preserve a little piece of it. Even if it is just in a photo album for yourself.
Remember not to look at what is beyond your control, but what you can do. Taking action is always better than wallowing in feelings of helplessness.
