felling very sad and confused

Doctor told me last year that i was pre-diabetic but now i found out that it was really type 2 diabetes. When i went into to have my colonoscopy, I was told that i was actually type 2. That was the reason I was put on metformin twice a day. Now i have to redo and rethink everything I do and everything i eat or think about eating. gonna have to really start watching all things i eat and drink and think about eating, drinking or doing.

    It is my understanding that your A1c levels are the crucial determination of “diabetic or not” - that’s why I get so frustrated when my hubby doesn’t get the answer to this question!

    Some people who are pre-diabetic ARE put on metformin. It is prescribed in these circumstances when the patient is very high risk and having a difficult time re the HbA1c. It can also help with weight-loss for people in your situation. Here is a link that might help you:

    I would be inclined to ask your Dr for a referral to a Registered Dietitian who will be able to help you, not only re your food etc., but also re recommended carbs because where it comes to Diabetes, one size doesn't fill all.

    When I was overweight I was borderline pre-diabetic. My cholesterol was totally out of whack and a worry too. I always ate a very healthy diet, but for me, what brought my bloods to be totally normal was losing a lot of weight. I was still about 20lb overweight at the time. I have since reached my goal and my bloods have returned normal results ever since.

    Many years ago my Mother-in-law was told by a Registered Nurse she was Diabetic after having had blood tests. When I read the lab report with another Registered Nurse, it didn't say that she was diabetic at all. It said that she could be at RISK of diabetes.

    However, regardless of whether you are pre-diabetic, diabetic or no risk of it, eating processed and pre-packaged food, and most drinks including juices and alcohol, should only be consumed as an occasional treat so that health issues are reduced. Lots of fresh veggies, some fruit, lean protein and healthy fats are the way to go. LOTS of yummy stuff out there :-)

    2.5 years ago I was put on Metformin, A1C 6.5. Stayed on it 7 months Keo with intermittent and prologed fasting brought it down. Since then it's been 5.8 or below. The reading at last appointment (6/16/20) was 4.9!
