I have had a lovely week. I went back into the classroom as a TTOC (teacher-teaching-on-call) and felt relatively safe - sanitizer everywhere, mask being worn, and designated lanes of movement in the halls. This is easier to do at the high school level. I must say, I am so glad I am retired and that these jobs are optional.
Last night I sewed three new cloth masks while stopping and starting a movie on Netflix as I moved between the ironing board in the kitchen and the sewing machine in the bedroom. I thoroughly enjoyed doing both! I gave one mask to a teacher today and she was just tickled as I selected a fabric to reflect her new puppy.
Then I talked with my daughter. She was directed to sew 40 masks for her co-workers, while on shift - not as a seamstress - and her boss then posted a picture wearing a mask on-line, boasting how they ran a sweatshop! Wow, someone sure needs leadership training! Other staff have quit under this leadership. As is often the case, the wrong people leave the organization.
A job is only as enjoyable as the people we work with. We've all been there, but sometimes we need a little reminder. Be kind, considerate and encouraging and the world will be a better place. As my father would say, "attract flies with honey, not vinegar."
