Read a Child a Book You Like Day
Read a Child a Book You Like Day celebrates reading books to children, as well as the birthday of children's author, Kate Douglas Wiggin. Wiggin, who is most known for writing Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, dedicated her life to children, and was born on this day in 1856. There are many benefits of reading to children, such as the stimulation of early brain development, and the helping of building language, literacy, and social skills. Reading to a child helps equip them with the building blocks necessary to be successful throughout their elementary, middle, and high school years, and throughout life. It also helps foster positive relationships between parents and their children, and between children and other adults.

Celebrate the day by reading a book to a child that had an impact on you, or you enjoyed while you were growing up. Maybe one of your favorites is on a list of the best children's books of all time,

or maybe it is a book that not many people know about.

Since it is Kate Douglas Wiggin's birthday, you could read a child one of her books as well. You could share your book with your own child, with other relatives or the child of a friend, or with your class if you are a teacher. You could also volunteer at a children's after school program and read a book you like to a child there.

Feeling pretty proud of myself. The Sesame Street puzzle I bought said 3-5 years, but I finished it in 18 months.
