So my Spark Friends what are your answers?

Saturday, October 03, 2020

I was chatting with other Sparkers and thought I would copy my reply here.

Is it feeling like fall in your area?

We've had wonderful sunny days, still feels like summer.

Are you doing anything different this month?

Just got home from camping and it's Day 1 of the Fall 5% Challenge. I am going hard to lose 8.3 pounds. I was happy to see I am 1.4 pounds lighter than I ended the Summer 5% Challenge.

What are you doing for fun?

I love to listen to audio books, so I am looking for a new MP3 on Amazon. I am training the 2 dogs to be better listeners.... haha little bribes with treats help. I want to go canoeing on a small shallow lake close by. Just watched YouTube the correct way to lift a canoe.

Are you socializing much?

Nope. Hubby and I were camping and kept to ourselves. We are home now so today I went to my friend's yard (wore a mask) to collect some plants to add to my flower garden. Tomorrow I am going to my daughter's and we will visit outside.

Interesting news in your area?

Kids are back to school and there have been no school closures.

We are on a migration route and see many geese headed south.

I am in Canada and live close to the US border. The border is closed except for essential workers in transportation, agriculture, etc. Sweethearts from each side of the border are getting married by officiants at a tiny place near Peace Arch Park. After they tie the knot they still have to return to their own countries.

So my Spark Friends what are you answers?

emoticon Is it feeling like fall in your area?

I live in Upstate NY, so right now, the leaves are turning in the most fascinating fall colors of red, orange, sunny yellow and paired with the bright blue sky on sunny days it is absolutely breathtaking!!!

emoticon Are you doing anything different this month

I started the 5% Fall Challenge and am tracking my food again, counting exercise minutes and steps, and two days in I already feel like I am a new person.

Playing games with friends and family.... board games, World of Warcraft online game, playing disc golf in the park, knitting, driving around in my car to enjoy the amazing NY Fall.

    emoticon Are you socializing much?

Not any more or less than usual. We have few, but good friends, and see them for occasional dinners out or for game weekends on a regular basis.

emoticon Interesting news in your area?

Drive by shootings in Albany and Troy have increased an enormous amount during the pandemic, many stray bullets killing women and children. It is the most tragic time I can remember since I moved to the USA.

Fall is definitely pushing summer aside---cooler temps, and that is Ok! emoticon
Since i just joined the 5% team challenge (thank you so much!) I am re-vamping my plans--have a great exercise plan in place--that is much better than before! I am super stoked about this challenge--(my first) and am making it fun, plus adding new friends on the team i am on.
Have already seen the 'needle move' on the scale---have momentum going, and hubby is up for lots of walks with me--and some tweaks in the menu!
What i am doing for fun---love reading a good mystery novel--and writing! Can't really say we miss socializing.
Finding so much to do everyday, staying busy and enjoying life---just grateful we are still breathing after all the fires here in the Northwest! .. Thanks for asking!

Some days feel like Fall, some not.

I'm taking hubby to radiation therapy 5 days a week and sometimes to chemo. Also to doctors appointments. All while trying to keep up with everything else and avoid Covid.

I am reading cozies and I watch a little T.V.

We are not allowed to socialize due to his condition.

Our covid cases and covid deaths keep climbing.

Is it feeling like fall in your area?
Yes it is. We even have frost and low temps the morning.

Are you doing anything different this month?
I am starting a new job on the 19th. I guess that could be counted as different. I am doing the 5% Challenge which is different from other years being I haven't done a fall one before.

What are you doing for fun?
I have been reading and watching Netflix. Nothing too exciting.

    Are you socializing much?
My 2 good friends and I have slowed down some. The bars are getting busier. The patios aren't as much of an option due to the cold.

    Interesting news in your area?
A local Catholic school teacher's kid was shot and killed during a robbery. The victim broke into a friend's house to steal drugs and money. The "friend" didn't take lightly to that. Of course our hometown paper isn't reporting all the information. They didn't say how he was dressed in all black with a mask and a hatchet. I find it interesting being it was my kids' 5th grade teacher's kid.

Is it feeling like fall in your area?
It is feeling like Fall here in North Carolina. The trees are changing, getting dark quicker and it is very dark in the mornings since we will be on Daylight Savings Time for another month. This weekend I have the heat on for the second time this season. Dew in the mornings is heavy and certainly a change in playing golf as we have to use different clubs to get quicker loft from wet or thick grass. emoticon

Is it feeling like fall in your area?
Still comfortable to walk/run in the morning in short sleeves. 50s & 60s.
    Leaves still mostly green

Are you doing anything different this month
Since mid March, each day, week, month is pretty much the same

What are you doing for fun?
Oddball that I am I consider exercise fun, so yeah I'm doing that.
Swimming is out but DH & I can still canoe

    Are you socializing much?
Not at all. Too many people here refuse to wear a mask or take precautions and ridicule those who do.
We declined an invitation to an event that stated "masks NOT required"
    All socializing has been online
Thank you for inviting me to the 5% challenge. I consider Spark a social activity

    Interesting news in your area?
Schools are open. DD (Hayburner1969) is teaching. Infections are rising but so far not enough to shut down. Parents have the option of having their kids attend online only.

The air feels crisper and we had cooler days but still warm in the afternoon.
We moved to a new place 2 weeks before lockdown, so we don’t know anyone.. so no social life but that’s fine with me.
I am looking forward to more winter meals, pretty much done with salads!
We are stocking up in case there is another lockdown.. cases are increasing, especially in the big cities like Madrid and Barcelona but even our little town had a few new cases. Happy to be living out in the campo!

Is it feeling like fall in your area?

OH YES and it's GORGEOUS, but we won't hit our peak until next weekend, still WOW!! Temps are in the 60s in the day 40's at night. WOOHOO PJ TIME!!

Are you doing anything different this month

TO MUCH maybe???? Dealing with skin cancer again, using the chemo cream on right arm from elbow down, have to other places waiting for the biopsy's to come in, NEW JOB working as a cashier because simply it's SUPER FUN!! I worked there decades ago. Its in my backyard, I know eons of people around this end of the city, it's a family area. For Sparks, no difference since it's working well.

Lynn, I also need to lose 8.3 lbs to lose my 5% Goal!! HEY GREAT JOB!!

What are you doing for fun?
Lots of walking with one friend. We both have a very strange sense of humor, so together any unsuspecting people we meet (EVEN OUR FRIENDS are such! LOL) we never plan to say what we do, but we just DO IT!! We had test driven a car last week. The sales lady asked us how we knew each other (we've been friends for over 40 years, roommates for 9 when we were young) I spoke up "Oh we are identical twins who aren't identical" the lady paused and said admirably "OH WOW!! I've not heard of that!" She's in her 40s, married with 3 kids. My friend added (She's Italian, I am French/Irish we look NOTHING AT ALL ALIKE) holds up her arm, I did mine "See we don't even look at all alike, but yes we are identical" and that poor thing was just so AMAZED. SO yes, I am having WAY TO MUCH FUN!! TO bad we don't work together,, LOL

    Are you socializing much?
My in person bubble is very small just 4 people. That friend, another one , my GD and her S,my GGS. I am not going out to eat, but I do tend to shop locally often enough. More likely than I should. However on ZOOM I am extremely active. Yesterday I was with 9 friends, today 6 different ones, tomorrow after a congregation meeting I'll be 5 different friends (1 was with on Friday). I DO wave hi to my neighbors living in a high rise, you are never alone when you go outside, but I do not socialize with them otherwise.

Interesting news in your area? Maine is one of the states that we now have over 10% cases than we did a few weeks ago. SIGH SIGH SIGH!! So I am being more cautious, though all in Maine is still very low compared to some other states, still I live in a hot spot. The school system I was working in was going to do go next week to 5 days in person for elementary, but not now. It's indefinite that they'll continue 2 days in (half a class each time) and the other 3 remote. Tourists are FLOCKING HERE LIKE the GEESE that fly out of Canada and head south. Though I am NOT a fan of them. Some fools here feed them so they're here year round. It's not healthy for them. I live right on the harbor and they are noisy things. Plus in the park nearby eeewwwe ewwwwww it's just nasty. Maybe I'm thinking wrong?

5% challenge started today and I am rebooting my healthy routine. I have a daily schedule to help me (learned that from the last 5% challenge)

What are you doing for fun?
I like to play Word Brain, I like to window shop online, and like to be on Sparkpeople

    Are you socializing much?
No, mostly only work ~ however we did go out to dinner and breakfast during our vacation for our anniversary

Definitely feels like early fall. Cool in the morning and evening, warmish in the afternoon.
Life is settling down now that I've had the hip surgery and have passed the biggest healing hurdles.
We're still shut down so reading and computer stuff for fun. Lots of walking.
I've been avoiding the residents as there are still too many of them who don't take the mask requirement seriously. This close to surgery, I'm cautious. I do skype my brother every day and see my daughter and her family now and then.
Since I'm new to Bellingham and moved in just before the shut downs, I haven't really had a chance to get to know the town. In some ways, I miss Seattle. I'm hoping I'll feel better about Bellingham when we can do things like the library and YMCA. I have noticed the increased activity of the birds (and squirrels) getting ready for fall/migration.
