Yesterday on the road, and in the woods.

Wednesday, October 07, 2020

Early this year I took a job as a cashier and I walk all day in and out of my booth to scan carts full of large items. I also scan huge items coming down the belt. Every single day of work is a rigorous aerobic workout. Hours of it.
But yesterday was my day off, and the exercise I got was a pure joy, I walked outdoors around a nearby lake road. Saw a bit of the lake, on a bright autumn day, so yes the weather was perfect.
I needed to get my 2 hours in for my Starfish Team. One hour into walking, I needed to use the lakeside outhouse. Meanwhile, I saw the town pick up this outhouse and knew it wouldn’t be there. So I ducked into the woods behind the golf course. A rugged hiking trail was before me, so I thought, well, keep on going. Next thing I know, I am going uphill, and starting to get worried about what wildlife I might encounter. I just had two foxes run across the road before I made it home from my walk two days before. I was worried I might see a bear. One was spotted nearby a few years ago. I was extremely worried about coyotes because it was getting near to dinner time for them, as well as me. Thank goodness I didn’t see a single animal. I started to get scared realizing the path was zigzagging instead of taking me right behind the golf course and to the road behind. The trails were full of roots and rocks and but thankfully no spider webs. I made sure to watch every step I took especially where I wanted to place my foot with each step. And very careful of sliding on the downhills. I kept looking for a familiar cross path, but remembered I hadn’t taken this trail before. Finally, I crested the last hill and saw all sunshine, and the end of the tree tops. Next, thought I heard a dog bark, and I was hopeful. Finally, I heard kids playing, and it was a pure joy to know I was nearly “out of the woods” Then I spotted a wall of grey, and realized it was a house! Whew! Five more minutes and I was out onto the road.
By the time I got home I was just under my 120 minutes, so I walked to the end of the cul de sac.
I was SO Proud of myself, I finally made it outdoors, after breaking my leg and fracturing my ankle in March, and avoiding all the muggy hot days. Now I am ready to get outdoors on every day off to get all of my exercise in.

What a great blog. I felt like I was on the walk with you.
I also have been going the extra distance for my 5% challenge team.
Glad you didn't meet any dangerous critters. We had a family of bear in the neighborhood this summer. They come down to the lake for fish.

I must say more power to you for getting 2 hours of exercise! When I was younger that was not out of reach for me but Post retirement I get by on much less. Did exercise my brain by writing for at least 5...hours. Feeling really tired tonight but the accomplishment was well worth it. You are doing really incredibly awesome and especially after those injuries in march! .... emoticon
