October 24, 2020 EYE PROTECTION
Safety is emphasized at just about every workplace and we have probably heard about the importance of eye protection. Even those who work in the yard at home or have certain hobbies understand why wearing eye protection is so important. When we get something in our eye it hurts and it could also damage part of our eye which may affect our sight. Protecting our sight is important for many reasons.
One reason we may not think about with eye protection is our hearts. What does our eyes have to do with our hearts? It’s simple. Whatever we look at affects our hearts. When we choose to look at vile and disgusting things, our heart becomes filthy and polluted. However, when we choose to look at what is good, our heart stays pure and clean.
God wants us to protect our hearts by carefully selecting what we look at. Our heart is the central part of our lives. Whatever we put into our hearts will come out of our mouths and show up in our actions. Choosing to first protect our eyes by looking only at what is good will help our hearts so we can show more love and care for one another.
Luke 11:34 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness.” (NLT)
1. Write what you look at that maybe you shouldn’t.
2. List what things you can start looking at that are pleasing to God.
3. Know God wants you to protect your eyes and hearts.
4. Pray asking God to help you look at only things that please Him.
Dear Lord, we can’t show love to others when we are abusing our eyes by looking at things of this world. We can’t show concern or care when we allow our eyes to put disgusting things into our hearts. Help us to be more mindful of what we look at and start looking at things that are pleasing to You so we can share your love with others. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Proverbs 4:25-26 “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.” (NLT)
Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (NLT)
Matthew 6:21 “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (NLT)
Matthew 12:34b “Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” (NLT)
We are to be careful about what we look at because it could cause damage to our hearts and keep us from sharing God’s love with others.
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.” (NLT)
