The Voice of God. Matthew 16:24-27. Oct. 24 2020.
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself; and take up his cross, and follow Me.”
Voices, so many voices that we listen too every day. The voice of our government leaders telling us what to do re Covid 19. The voice of the television adds telling us what we need more than anything. The newspaper and magazines we read each day. The web pages we search through. The voice of our friends and neighbour. Voices after voices. So how do we recognize the voice of God amongst all the other voices that infiltrate our minds every day?
When we think that we have heard from God, we should always confirm it through Scripture. God will never tell us to do something that goes against what is written in His Word. Sadly many people use their own desires and wants as the test of what God wants from them. Remember that the Bible is unchanging and totally reliable, while our will and desires changes as the winds blow.
Another mistake we make is that we believe that God’s will for us will fit right into our normal lives. Instead god’s call on our lives is usually life changing. He often wants to change the direction of our lives completely. I remember when He called me and our family off a beautiful farm in Southwest Ontario to go to Quito Ecuador a city of 3 million people situated on a mountain range plateau that was about 3 miles wide by 27 miles long. Talk about life changing!
God has a special word for all of us. Strive to listen clearly so that you can follow Him completely in boldness and confidence. Make sure you use Scripture to confirm your calling. Then trust and follow Him. You will be glad that you did.
