Temptation. Luke 4:1-13. November 21 2020
“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordon. And was led By the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.” Luke 4:1-2
Temptations are all around us. We face them every day. No one is exempt from them. Even Jesus was tempted by Satan to turn away from God. He saw through the devils schemes and remained firm in His love and devotion to His Father.
One of the reasons that Jesus came to this earth I was to understand our needs and struggles. He knows how we feel under the weight of temptations and struggles. He faced the devil, the one who tempts us and overcame him. He fought off the fiery attacks.
We must remember that when we face temptations we are not facing them alone. Jesus is with us and He gives us the strength to say no to every dark and evil imaginations. In these times when the enemy feeds us all kinds of lies to defeat and discourage us, we need to clothe ourselves with the armour of God. Ephesians 6. Remember that God knows how you are going to respond and He still loves you no matter what happens.
Facing temptations is not a sin. It only becomes a sin when you act on the temptation. God always provides a way to steer clear or to find a way out of the temptation. We can avoid evil because Jesus is within us and His Spirit guides us into the truth. We need to claim God’s strength and resist to gain the victory. Remember even when you fall, God is there to help again the next time. Temptation is common to all of us. He gives us the strength to steer clear of temptation and reject evil. Trust Him as you face temptations.
