We must be on WATCH against the Enemy’s tactics, as well as, putting off the old man (Col. 3:9). The old man is the un-regenerated, soulish man that walks, lives, eats by how he feels, what he sees, what he thinks. The old man is carnally minded. If or when we forget that we are soldiers in Christ chosen by Him (2 Tim 2:3-4), we have a tendency to give way to our feelings, circumstances, and situations.
The Accuser is a serpent with the teeth of a crocodile that bite and devour. Like an alligator seeking prey, Satan creeps his way in secretly. Here a thought; there a thought. Here a feeling; there a feeling (Romans 8:5-6, 13). We must, as the Word says, “Set our affections on things ABOVE where Christ sits” (Col 3:2). The hour is too, too late to allow the carnal, soulish man (mind, will, emotions) to dictate our lives. If we feel this way or that way, and then walk in it, we deceive ourselves. When facing any storm, we must take our “sails” down. Our emotions, feelings, sentiments account for nothing. We can feel one way today and another way tomorrow. Do not allow feelings of weariness to dictate and control your day.
We have a High Priest interceding for us in heavenly places. “FOR we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities” (Hebrews 4:15). In other words, Jesus understands how we feel and what we are going through as we fight the good fight of faith. He is no stranger to suffering and persecution.
So, therefore, the solution in any storm is as Jesus said, “WATCH and PRAY, Peter, because the spirit is willing (always ready) but the flesh is weak.” In our daily walk, it is the same thing. Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Mt. 6:34).
If resisting how I feel and what I see determine the outcome of my victory, then no matter how long I must stand, I am going to go with the Word. My sails must stay down, out of God’s way (James 4:7; Proverbs 18:21).
"Watch. Stand in the faith. Be brave. Be strong. Let all that you do be done with love."
