January 20, 2021 WHEN SORROW COMES

It is not IF sorrow comes, but WHEN sorrow comes. We all have dealt with sorrow in our lives and will probably deal with it again. Since nothing is forever in this world, we will deal with sorrow when a loved one passes away, when we lose our job, when someone we care about moves away, etc. There are many situations where we experience sorrow. However, there is only one good way to deal with it.

The one and only way to deal with sorrow is seeking God and His word. Remembering He is in control and wants to comfort us as we deal with the pain. Even if the sorrow is due to something we caused from our own actions or words, God wants us to turn to Him. And His promise to us is that after we have suffered a little while, He will give us strength, restore us and support us placing us on a firm foundation.

1 Peter 5:10 “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” (NLT)

1. Write what you do when sorrow comes.
2. List what the world says to do.
3. Know you can only find true comfort in God.
4. Pray and get into His word remembering all His promises to you.

Dear Lord, when sorrow comes we know there are no alternatives other than You. No one can give us the true comfort we need other than You. Remind us when we are dealing with sorrow that we need You to help us. Thank You for showing kindness to us and restoring us, supporting us and giving us strength in times of sorrow. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.” (NLT)

Lamentations 3:32 “Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love.” (NLT)

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (NLT)

James 1:2-4 “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (NLT)

Psalm 30:5b “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” (NLT)

Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.” (NLT)
