January 23, 2021 STOP SCROLLING

There are already plenty of people in this world doing nothing and just letting things happen. They procrastinate, make excuses, believe someone else will do it or they are just lazy. There are plenty of people who have turned away from God to do their own thing believing they have it all together. But they don’t. When we are away from God, we are not doing anything productive at all. It is as if we are scrolling mindlessly through life looking for the next great thing to attract our attention.

When we just scroll through life, the devil is watching and waiting. Since we aren’t on fire for the Lord as we should be, then we are doing exactly what the devil wants and he will entice us to go deeper and deeper into his trap until we realize we are in the bottom of the pit with no way out. Complacency and laziness will lead us away from God. Day by day, we slip away. Let’s not let that happen to us. Let’s choose to stay on fire for God, get into His word and live every day for Him.

1 Peter 1:13-15 “So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.” (NLT)

1. Write what you do that may be pulling you away from God.
2. List things you do that are not pleasing to God.
3. Know doing God’s will should be your top priority.
4. Stop scrolling through life. Turn away from the things of the world and follow only Him.

Dear Lord, remind us not be complacent and lazy. We are living in a different world right now where our old routines are a thing of the past. Help us to find new routines and new ways to do Your will so we stay focused on You and we don’t slip away. Show us anything in our lives that may be slowly pulling us away from You. Help us to turn from it and turn back to You. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Romans 3:19 “Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.” (NLT)

Romans 12:11 “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” (NLT)

1 John 3:7-8 “Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.” (NLT)

2 Peter 2:20 “And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.” (NLT)

1 Peter 5:8 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (NLT)

1 John 1:6 “So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.” (NLT)

Proverbs 1:32 “For simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.” (NLT)
