i've decided to not do any deep thinking to-day--
It is son#3, the Policeman with his daughter--
They have their lunch in the sleigh--their minnows--their auger--- and are heading up the lake , to their ice shack, on the lake, to fish---
It is only minus 10C to-day--milder than yesterday's temperature of minus 20C----
I never grew up in the North---- but in Southern Ontario, so I find all these Northern activities so different-- There are so so many lakes around our city (over 4000)- and usually 3 to 4 ft of ice on the lakes in the winter, so this time of year, it is safe for the ski-doers--
We do have a ski hill in town--- closed now, because of Covid, but our children are very good skiers--They began to ski when very young--as soon as they could walk--
I never had that opportunity, growing up in Southern Ontario----
I remember one winter I decided to accompany our children to the ski hill-- I wore someone's skis-- I made it up the lift--- but when looking down the hill, which looked like Mount Everest to me, I knew I would never be able to ski down-- Of course all the kids were embarrassed to see their Mom stuck at the top of the hill so disowned me----
I finally slid down , sitting on my skis-- and never attempted that again-
Life always seemed safer in the North--I could drop the children at 10am at the ski hill and pick them up at 4pm-- Everyone knew everyone else-- and they always were safe-
Son #3, the Policeman, is so familiar with the lakes in this area, and the bush, that he patrols this lake and all around us-- It is his job and in the summer quite often the Police Boat pulls up to the dock and he is the officer in it--with a new recruit!-
Why on earth did I get to all that this morning?
The Piano is waiting-- (the vacuum is too!)--and Tess will soon be chomping at the bit to hoof it up the road-
It is SUNDAY___
probably shovelling to do too!
