Although to those of us that are retired it is not quite of the impact that it was while working, tis till nice to just think that the Weekend is here!! Now days I try to schedule drives to the lake or the mountains during the week when it is less crowded and there is less traffic..one absolute perk to retirement is the freedom to do what you want when you want...mostly. Of course there are the usual commitments but not the need to clock in and out on such a rigid schedule.
My plans for today were to get out and about headed South towards the hills..but after a very brief and challenging walk in the mud to feed and do chores I did decide that hanging at the house was the better choice for today.
I should have taken a picture of the egg I got today. It was shaped like a rifle bullet..HONEST!! plus it was dark brown at one end fading to a pale brown at the other!! only the size of a large caliber rifle bullet as well! One of the girls looked at it and commented ...How did that even come out of a chicken!! I think it might have been two of what they call Lash eggs, the eggs they lay when they first start..but this one was twins. I will break it in the AM...will take a pic first I promise..and see if it has two yolks to confirm my suspicions. My old hens are still working and earning their keep. They might only lay every other day..but for their age I am thinking that's not bad. I keep thinking I am going to look up and see exactly how old they are..but I do know for sure that I was looking at pics from 5 years ago or longer and some of the big fluffy butts were in those pics..probably as young hens!! I just like those hens they have been interesting and fun to watch over time. One to this day gets broody and will go round making clucking noises looking for chicks to raise..but she refuses to sit a nest? A lil confused in her senior years I guess!
That was about it for the day...just a peaceful quite day here on Stonebound Acres..I hope ya'al have a good nights rest and wake to a fun weekend!!

We eat out with a friend or friends on Friday nightand the choices have been very slim. We have several favorites in Mississippi which are just across the River. However, the two adjacent counties in MS were hot spots and the restaurants were closed and remained closed for months and we were not wanting to join their death rate either. Last night we went to Clarksdale and ate at a family style restaurant that has Lebonese, Italian and American choices. They are mainly a breakfast lunch stop but have a large dining hall off the "old" restaurant so distantancing is easy any where at night and we had a blast and a great meal!

Double yolk in a bullet shaped egg? Looking forward to seeing it either way. Richard and I were talking this morning about how we seldom get double yolk eggs anymore, but I had one about 2 weeks ago. We only raised chickens once and I learned my lesson not to do that again. We raised them to butcher for the freezer, not for eggs. Trouble was, I'd never dressed a chicken in my life and I was clueless! What a mess I got myself into! LOL

I'm retired as well but caring for one grandson and my youngest son works in one of the empty bedrooms turned office, sooo, I'm so looking forward to weekends to be alone with just hubby and pets around. Can't wait to see the bullet egg. So funny with the senior chicken emoticon

What an enjoyable blog you wrote. Like the education on chickens; never raised them though. When my brothers and I were very young children though my grandmother bought us live chicks. We had them for a while. It was a vague memory.

Sounds like a WISE idea since if your yard is muddy most likely you'd of run into more mud. Of course your vehicle can handle it, but your body??? Maybe not as much.

LOL PLEASE DO take a pic of the egg, both before and after you break it!! INTERESTING!!

Awwww all animals are so adorable when they are little,,,than they go thru the 2 year old stage, finally they calm down ,, some for quite awhile, than they start to enter the adult stage, they are adults and the very fortunate ones become elderly. It's remarkable to watch the stages. I remember when you got them, but of course not the year.
