Week 22 - "You're still eating like that?!?"

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

So before we start our bootcamp every morning or during our stretches, the trainer reads our food journal. When he's outraged or disgusted, he reads the offending item out loud. For example..."ICE CREAM!?!?!" Then circles it in red ink in our book. So anyway, today one of the old bootcamp members came back - she and I both did it over a year ago, and stopped last April for whatever reason. I just started back up this July. So he's reading how horribly I ate on Monday and the prodigal bootcamper goes "you're still eating like that?!?" WOW. It really made me think - it's been over a year and yes, I'm STILL eating horribly. This has got to change...

That sounds right. I am bad about wanting something sweet every day. In my defense, I try to have something really small (like a square or two of chocolate, or a 100 calorie pack). I keep meaning to ask you about your boot camp training... is that at a gym?

Haha. Mel - my trainer wants me to indulge only once a week until I reach my goal. I fail at that all the time. I think I did so well this past week because of the No Sweets challenge. I definitely noticed better calorie intake because of it. I agree with you, moderation is the key. I don't like to deprive myself completely. My personal goal (as seen on my SparkPage) is to have two whole days of no sweets at all each week and to not go crazy on the other 5 days. I think 3 days of having a small treat is reasonable. Small treat being ONE scoop of ice cream or TWO small cookies or a candy bar. That doesn't sound too bad, right?

Wait now. I understand that you don't want to eat ice cream every night. But how much ice cream and how are often are we talking here? Maybe I'm just looking for justification for my own bad behavior (a distinct possibility, I must say), but it seems to me that moderation and portion control is really the goal. If the goal is no chocolate or ice cream ever, I give up.

Oh, and even eating the ice cream, you still won this week!

Your blog really made me think. The same could be said about me. I really did great with my diet for the first 6 months of SP and like to think that I still am...I'm not...I'm really not. I've "added" too many foods back into my regular routine. Things that should be a special treat are now,"Hey it's 2pm on a Tues. time for a treat". Thanks for the wake-up call.
