Week 23 - ground turkey, soy milk and egg whites?

Saturday, September 08, 2007

So it seems like I'm in this constant battle with my bootcamp instructor over what I eat. Now that he sees I'm not inhaling the sweets everyday like I used to, he's starting to focus on better food choices. I still drink 2% milk. SORRY - I've tried skim AND soy and I can't stomach it!! He's still trying to push soy milk on me. He saw beef tacos in my food journal one day and suggested ground turkey. Now I've had ground turkey when friends have used it in their dishes. I don't care for it, but DH and I agreed to try it in our chili this week. Not bad. But I still prefer beef! haha But I think we could use it in our spaghetti and chili from now on. He also mentioned buffalo. Hmmmm...anyone ever had it? He said it's actually leaner than beef and has better flavor. I might try that. I've never had egg whites, but I wouldn't think those are so bad. But what's wrong with the yolk? A lot of fat? Cholesterol? I thought eggs were good for you!

Well anyway, unless you're only eating grass, berries and fresh fish, I'm sure you can ALWAYS do better with your diet, right? I won't shy away from small changes when there's opportunity for them, but I'm sticking with 2% milk. That's where I draw the line! :-P Everything else is negotiable and I promise to at least try things once.

I agree. You're working on changing habits for life, not just a short-term diet. I'm a foodie -- actually, I'm an admitted food snob. We shamelessly spend a lot of our tiny incomes on food. I love to cook. I can't stand soy milk and I also don't like skim - but 1% milk is good. Try it. As for the other stuff, I'm fully convinced that moderation and portion size is the key.

Girl, stick to your guns with the instructor... you have to come up with a plan that will work for YOUR life. Remember, you're not on a diet, you are working out a life diet -- how you will eat forever. We do not eat ground turkey at my house, but we do eat the leanest ground beef possible. (We do like turkey Italian sausage though!) Seriously, work it out so that what you're doing is something you can LIVE with because you're not in this to DIEt.
