Do you rely on artifical sweeteners to quell your sugar cravings? The foods we eat and the beverages we drink use many types of low-calorie sweeteners. According to the National Cancer Institute, there is no scientific evidence that any artificial sweeteners approved for use in the United States cause cancer. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) says that adults can safely enjoy a range of non-nutritive sweeteners when consumed in a diet that is guided by federal nutrition recommendations such as the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Drinking too many diet beverages can trigger your sweet tooth, though. Today, try to rely on water instead of diet pop to quench your thirst.
