I can relate to your post. I have several health issues due to autoimmune disease. I am wheel chair bound when out in public, making it very difficult. I have lost 6 pounds already and can tell the difference.

Right now my blood pressure is to low, so we ran bloodwork and get the results tomorrow.

Reach out to us when you have a rough day. We can help encourage you to keep going.

I will give an amen to what Harry says. I dropped a bunch of weight (100 pounds) when I first joined SparkPeople back many years ago, got lax and gained back a pretty good portion of it and then five years ago got a wakeup call from those very lab results you folks have mentioned. Blood glucose was well over 300, I was losing sight in one eye, could hardly move without pain due to arthritis, etc. I answered the call, got serious and now nearly every number has improved vastly. My a1c has been normal for over three years now without meds, my BP is usually well under control, and GERD is nearly nonexistent. Dedication and consistency are key. Choose a plan and stick to it. If one doesn't work, try another and keep trying until you find what is safe and works for you. I highly recommend The Spark Program because it works for me and I have been doing it for so long now that my database is near complete and tracking calories and exercise probably require no more than ten minutes of my time per day. I've become a little more fanatic about exercise since I retired because I'm pretty sedentary without it. Most days I exercise in some mild form or another at least ninety minutes, but as I said, I do little else that's very active. I've done it and others have done it... so can you. Welcome back to SparkPeople!

Hello Gerry and welcome to SPARKPeople.

You will find a lot of help here. Losing weight has provided me many health benefits, especially greatly improved lab results.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Gerry, I am an almost 64 year old woman, with a great life, except for my weight and health challenges. I have been a member of Spark People off and on for several years, but never had the gumption to stick with it. My weight has been creeping up over the past few years. I went for my annual physical yesterday and my numbers were awful, Blood pressure, etc. In addition to my very poor eating habits, I have not been as vigilant as I should about taking my meds. Well, now I am scared! I knew I needed to get back to you all at Spark People, so here I am. I have a follow up appointment in 3 months, so hopefully with diet, exercise, and help from you all, things will look better. My Dr assures me that my main health challenges, arthiritis, and GERD will be helped greatly with diet, exercise, and taking my meds. Thats all for now. Any encouragement will be appreciated! THANK YOU!!
