Welcome to the team, Lesley! This team and the Popsugar reading challenge every year have expanded my reading. There are many books I wouldn't have picked up on my own that I've loved because of our monthly reading selection.

Hi, I'm Lesley. Joined this group to find some different reads. Sometimes I feel like I am always stuck on the same author or same book and looking for inspiration here. When I get bored, I might play a computer game, and would rather pick up a book. emoticon

Welcome to the team. Some people have gotten copies of next month's book from Amazon. I lucked out and got an ebook from my library (mine is still closed). You might try that (if they have something like Overdrive or Hoopla). The other option is a free choice. The classics are usually easier to get copies (again, electronic). We picked Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for this month for that reason.

I am Chell and I am a teacher who teaches special education reading and math but I love to read. I teach 6th grade so sometimes I read the book they are interested in as well. I live in Ohio as well. I usually am reading 2-3 books at the same time. I normally have an hour commute as well so that eats up a lot of my time but I love where I teach. I am looking forward to being a part of a book club but trying to figure out how to get the books since my library is still closed? Any suggestions?

Welcome to the team! I've done more e-reading this spring than I generally have in years. I usually keep one ebook on my phone as an emergency book (getting stuck in a waiting room for hours). I do have a Kindle, but I have a preference for the physical book.

Hi, I'm Gill and live in the UK. Our library has been closed since the lock-down here in March. But I've been reading ebooks which I can borrow from the library app (Borrow Box). It's not the same as having a REAL book in your hands, but it's better than nothing.

I'm not a prolific reader, but I always have a couple of books on the go. I often find that I get trapped in reading non-fiction, and have to remind myself every now and then to choose a fiction book and ENJOY myself!

I'm still working - I work as a support worker with adults with a learning disability, so I'm on shift-work and don't usually have breaks to read at work. But since the lock-down, we have to take ourselves off into an empty space to eat and drink, so that has given me the opportunity to also access my phone and read a few chapters of my latest e-book!

I look forward to exploring the threads - especially the one where you've listed TBR - yes! I have several books on my shelf that I've picked up from swop shelves, or second-hand, that have remained unread.

Gill

Good morning all! My job is in the State Welfare system. I've held many positions throughout my career. The job itself can be pretty stressful so getting away for your breaks is really important. For about a year and a half I was commuting 2.5 hours a day and was getting plenty of reading time in. I got a job closer to home and really missed all the books I was enjoying. So I spend 1 hr a day walking on breaks and lunch and get my audio book fix in! :) I have a goal this year to read a book a week. I'm ahead of my goal right now at 13 of 52. I try to read all genres to give variety. I track what I read through Goodreads app. Currently reading The Silent Patient; Hello, Summer; and The Unteachables. Looking forward to getting new ideas for books to read. I have never participated in a book club and am not really great at writing reviews, so we will see how well I participate in that area. :)

Welcome to the team! I'll send you an official welcome goody in a minute. We just closed the voting on next month's book choice, but if you're looking for book ideas, we have a thread every month for people to tell us what they've read and how they rated it. In our monthly reads section, we also have a listing of the books we've previously read.

hey, group, my name is Nicole. I am so happy to find this group. I am currently doing the 2020 reading challenge and as of today, I have read 9 books mostly romance. I work 3rd shift as a MedTech and reading keeps me awake. I decided to read 20 books for 2020 but I think I will have to change that at this rate.
Happy reading everyone

Hi all!

My name is Heather, and I have loved the written word since the first book my mother read to me as a child, however, life has happened and the adult world demanded a lot of my time. But I am here to steal back a little bit of my childhood and get lost in a few books.

Hi! I'm Alicia and I'm from Tennessee. I've always loved to read but slowed down my book intake after having kids. I decided to change that a couple years ago and started reading more. I tend to be a historical fiction/fiction junkie but this year I'm trying to read several books from many different genres (an idea that I got from my daughter's 7th grade English teacher). Currently, I'm reading North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.

Kristine here. Lifelong avid reader. Some years I pick a genre or theme and then choose books that fit - there was the year of disaster reads and then a year of grief memoirs! This year seems to be mostly historical fiction, although I didn't make a conscious effort to chose that genre. Also seems to be a year of newly published books so I have stopped reading WSJ, NYT, and even Goodreads new book reviews Too many 'old' books on my to-read list are calling to me. Am retired so am blessed with more reading time than ever before. I belong to book discussion groups in two libraries. Read on!

Hello! I am new well sort of to spark. I used it years ago and tried some other things. However, I have gotten to where I am now more interested in healthy habits instead of the quick weight loss. I am an avid book reader who just found a subscription box for coffee and a classic. I usually alternate between a psychological thriller and then a Christian novel. I always have at least one personal development book going either on audio or in paper. I look forward to reading with you all.

Welcome to the team, Eris! I have a few books going at the same time as well. Finishing up one print book today, have a book of poetry going, an audiobook for the car, a book from my collection for just having in my backpack (I refer to it as the book for travel), and an ebook on my phone for unexpected waits.

Hi I'm Kelly. I"m from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I love to read. I mostly read murder mysteries and self care/growth. But I do read some fantasy and biography at times too. I seem to always have multiple books on the go and I listen to audio books at work and while I drive as well. I can't wait to get new book ideas and expand my repertoire as well.

Yeah, while I don't usually have time to read at work (a common misconception about working in a library), anything I read is technically work-related XD I do have to spend a fair bit of my reading in the children's/YA literature section, because I'm the youth services coordinator, but I also spend plenty of time answering the eternal question: "I'm looking for something new, what do you recommend?" asked by people of all ages and interests!

Hello, I'm a returning (long inactive) user under a new name, ready for a fresh start. I'm a librarian in Ohio, and struggling with food addiction/inactivity. I'm hoping to make a concentrated effort to change my diet and lifestyle to become a healthier person. I'm also an avid reader and gamer. I'm excited about a book club group, because I am always looking out for new book ideas, and it counts as professional development! ;) I look forward to interesting reading and discussions.

I have always loved to read. I enjoy being part of this team. I have a wide range of interest in books. About the only genres I don't read is horror and science fiction. I belong to two local book clubs, Goodreads, Bookbrowse, and a few book teams on Spark. I am mostly active on just this book team though. I also like to knit but I read more then I knit. I'm a married mom of 9 and grandma of 6 with 3 more grandchildren on the way. I work full time as a nurse on a medical floor.

Welcome to the team, Cat! I read in a similar way. It's rare for me not to have two or 3 books going at a time. Or more. Love Jenny Lawson and Stephen King. Also have a Kindle loaded up with books, but I prefer the actual books. Most of the books I own are from library book sales. I'll pay full price for a particular author if I'm desperate for their new book. Welcome.

My name is Cat and I love reading (and writing). Trying to find more time to read (and write). Joining this group seems like a way to do that!!

I'm a very unfocused reader. I can read 4 to 5 (or more) books at once and somehow remember what's going on. Even months later. It's weird. Lol!!

I have a kindle and a large cookbook collection (435-ish books) on that kindle. I never pay full price for a kindle cookbook. Never. Or for any book.

I love a good ole fashion paperback and hardcover too. Sometimes I just need to have something solid in my hands.

I don't really have a favorite book. Too many books out there to choose from!!! I do have some favorite author's though: Jenny Lawson (hilarious, but not for everyone), Stephen King, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Thich Nhat Hanh, just to name a few. Again too many good authors to choose from !!!

Thank you for your time.

My name is Alyssa and I love reading. I plan on writing my own book (s) but it's a slow process. I have about the same writing speed as George R.R. Martin!

I am also a Kindle addict, but I love the Inheritance Cycle, Harry Potter, The Boundless Deep, and many other books.

Hi Everyone!!!

I'm Rob Denton and I love books too!!!

I really have a hard time saying what my favorite books are because I enjoy so many.

I actually enjoy books so much that I started my own book newsletter where I (and some friends) send out a custom list of books each day that are mostly free or $0.99. It's called: www.Dailykindledeals.com .

Well, thanks for having me here and I look forward to getting to know everyone better.

Hello,

I'm back to SP after a while... I think a Book Club is the right thing for me. I love sci-fi, fantasy, detective novels (and so on)! As soon as I finish writing this post, I'll check out the Dec book to read :)

Have a great day!

Hello, I was a SparkPeople member a few years back, but fell off of it. As I'm trying to get my health and eating back on track, I'm getting back involved. I am a big reader (a former English major as a result) and recently finished the 2017 Popsugar Reading Challenge. I don't have too many folks around me locally who share my need to read, so happy to join some online groups for book ideas and discussions!

Hello, I've been a member but not active for a while. I'm trying to be more active on SparkPeople in general so I'm reintroducing myself. I find myself reading very different genres than I used to. I'm really excited about it. I have my to be read pile listed on goodreads.com. I found this helpful because several books were part of a series. It also helped me go through them and I sold many that no longer interested me. I still have so many. So far this year I read:
Together Tea by Marjan Kamali
Lamb by Christopher Moore
Tigers Destiny (CD) by Colleen Houck
Alaska Twilight by Colleen Coble
Pirate (CD) by Clive Clesser
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
The Anatomy of Ghosts by Andrew Taylor
Land of Love and Drowning by Typhanie Yanique
White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Dead Dog Like Me by Max Davis
Almost Moon by Alice Sebol
The Church Builder by A.L.Shields
And currently reading
Wilderness Rising by A.L.Shields

I believe in you.

Hello :) I just joined the group and I'm already super excited. I even went ahead and ordered the November book on Amazon. I love reading but none of the people around me like to read so I'm happy I have people to discuss books with!

My name is Taylor and I'm 25-years old. I'm a stay-at-home mom. My son is 2 & 1/2 years old. I definitely want more babies (I want one now!) but I know that I have got to lose this weight and get my health in order before I even consider it... My highest weight is 320 pounds... Currently I'm 277.8 and my goal weight is to reach 160 (recommended by my doctor). My doctor has recommended weight loss surgery but I'm wanting to try this on my own first.

I am an emotional/binge eater so I'm hoping that this group will distract me from that behavior! I could use as much motivation/support as possible so feel free to add me :)

"Wake up with DETERMINATION; Go to bed with SATISFACTION."

Hello I just joined the team. I love to read every day. I prefer fiction - psychological thrillers are my favorite. I also read crime, mysteries and occasionally I mix it up with a cozy family story.
Reading relaxes me so most of the time I will read a few hours before bed. Looking forward to extending my reading interest here by your many suggestions.

Welcome to the team. I started listening to memoirs at the gym. I'm not as good at audiobooks as I am reading, so it's taken some practice. It's pretty cool listening to someone read their own words. It's almost like just listening to them talk to me.

Welcome to the team. I'm not sure if I'm gravitating more towards nonfiction or not, but I did notice a lot of my books were nonfiction this year. I'll have to see if that is a new pattern.

Hi I love to read and read most every genre although in recent years I have moved more toward non-fiction. I particularly enjoy research based non fiction. Right now I am reading a biography of Alexander Hamilton. I have just started the September book for this book club and think it is excellent! I am looking forward to being a part of this book club and finding new good reads through it!

I have been an avid reader since I first learned how to read. I have read from most genres and found something I have enjoyed in each of them. My favourite author is Neil Gaiman and my favourite book is The Book of Flying by Keith Miller. I am always open to new book suggestions and love talking about books!
I am really looking forward to meeting some fellow bookworms while on this journey to a healthier lifestyle!

I have always loved to read from the time I first learned, I have devoured books. I've been through all kinds of phases liking different types of fiction and non fiction. I started with my fairy tale phase in 3rd Grade followed by Bobbsey Twins, Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. Then came my real science phase and real history. Then science fiction and historical fiction. Then I went back to mystery novels and read all of the books by Ellery Queen, Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler. Now my tastes are very eclectic. I will try the first 100 pages of any book recommended to me. I ask friends and read reviews and belong to a book club in my community. I have lots of favorite authors but I am always adding new ones and deleting others. Right now I like books by Gregory, De Mille, Baldacci, Cornwell, Sanford, Reich, Slaughter, Grisham, Ware, Coben, See, Trigiani, Child, Brown, Chevalier, Shreveport, Archer and Gerritsen. My husband reads a lot of non fiction and always recommends to me the ones he thinks I will like. I am looking forward to making new friends who love to read and are also trying to lose weight and get healthy.

I like to read modern day fiction, drama - Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx- Jodi Picoult & Joyce Carol Oates & Anne Tyler (loved their stuff) I went through a horror phase Stephen King read all his stuff. Back in early teens my favorites were Trilogy of the Rings and all of Agatha Christie's mysteries. James Patterson is in my stacks, I still have too many of his novels to read. When I can't put my hands on a good gut wrenching drama then I rely on suspense via crime mysteries. Sometimes a good spy novel (but really, I ask you... who is better than Ian Fleming's 007 back in the day)

Hello ~ My name is Lynda and I love to read. I head up the local book club in our town. We read one book per month that is on a booklist. Some read more and some read many, many more. I have been a Spark People member for a few years now. I try to get on the computer at home a few times a week and at least once on the weekend. I am looking forward to being a part of this team ~ Happy Reading! emoticon
