I've been reading a series by an Irish author, William Ryan, that is set in post-WWII USSR. The first in the series is The Holy Thief. The books are well-written. I like the insight into that period in Russian history. The protagonist is a detective in the Moscow Police Force who is seconded to the KGB. He loves his country and supports the political system but is disturbed by changes that are occurring and very leery of the bureaucracy in which he becomes involved. I highly recommend this author.

King and Koontz are two of my favorites! My most recent "gotta have it as soon as it comes out" authors are Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They have written a series with a cool, old-fashioned FBI agent named Prendergast. First book in the series was Relic. I just finished the most recent one, White Fire, and am looking forward to the next :)

I'll have to check out your Joyce Carol Oates. Thanks for the suggestion!

My husband had a massive hemorrhagic stroke last February. After a year of hard work and struggles, he just returned to work as a high school teacher this morning emoticon
I can't wait for him to get home and tell me how it went!!

You like horror and suspense? Then maybe you also read Joyce Carol Oates and Stephen King. My bookshelves are FULL of them. I honestly don't know which of them is more prolific. I'm reading Doctor Sleep right now, but will be done soon, and start The Cuckoo's Calling.

How's your husband doing?

Hi everybody!

My name is Judy and I'm a voracious reader. I slowed down a little bit over the past few years while I was in school and then helping my husband to recover from a stroke, but recently have resumed my reading ways!

My first choices for reading are generally horror, suspense, murder mysteries. I'm excited to be joining this group and having my horizons expanded a bit :)

I just purchased Quiet for my Kindle. Excellent bonus that it was only $2.99!!
